"Family Guy - The Quest For Stuff" game

I figured out the roads. Not on purpose, but I did it. Once I figured it out, it seemed easy, but not intuitive at all.

Here is another thing I learned, so this should save you all some time.

Don’t delete your game and re-download it again! If you do that, you are starting completely over. I’ve only had three day’s worth of game play, so it didn’t kill me, but at the same time, everything takes so damn long, I would have preferred not to start over from scratch, either.

Here’s what happened. I set up a facebook account so I could connect to it and get some of you all to join with, so we would all be able to have a few towns to visit each day. However, when I went into the task to hook up with facebook, I hit the wrong button when it asked me if it could have permission to see my friends list, and everything else under my facebook account. No big deal, right? Just go back into the task, and hit the right button, and my connection with facebook would be established.

Except it didn’t work. It got hung into a loop, where the only thing I kept seeing was Consuela telling me “no, no, no.” And a message saying I made an error connecting to FB.

After three tries, i got out of the game. When I went back in, it didn’t go to the splash screen and sync, but instead it went right back into the game. Like it didn’t disconnect from it or something. So, i shut down my iPad and restarted it. Still, opening the game took me right where I was when I left it, with no resetting or splash screen. I did this twice, and finally thought "well, like TSTO, i will delete the program, and reinstall it. That should get me back to where I was before trying to connect to fb.

Wrong.

I had to go through the entire chicken fight crap again. (To be honest, the chicken fight on Family Guy is one of my least favorite and most annoying repeating fillers the show uses, so the fact that they picked this theme to use is bad enough, but to have to sit through it a second time was painful.

Now I am back to square 1, and not that happy about it.

This time around, I will TRY to connect to FB as soon as I get the task for it. That supposedly gives you 5 clams, so I will wait for the task. If it doesn’t give me the task, then screw it.

Just a note about money. Before I lost my game and started over, I had about $500. I finally turned the corner on cash, but I think i needed to go through a number of tasks first, that cost money. One task was to have/collect $500. When you do that, it takes $500 from you! D’oh! After I did that, I had 1 dollar left.

So, hanging out on the game for 20 minutes, playing leapfrog with Peter and Chris, and tapping the houses, built up enough cash to clear some land, or buy a decoration. But I was not broke.

As for the Clams, right now it seems that you can play the game, but you will not be able to get all of the characters or all of the houses/buildings without clams. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’d be curious if anyone discovers or writes up a user log that shows what characters can appear only with clams.

I just figured out what happened. When you reinstall the software, and start the game, instead of it telling you to log in, it starts everything over. I just hit the button thst takes you to the settings and other buttons, and sure enough, i was playing anonymously. After I realized this, I put my email address in, and tada! My first Quahog was back!

That’s the good news. The bad news? All the work I did on my new Quahog is gone with the wind, and worse, I keep getting the same error when I try to sign in to facebook.

“You have returned to the app without completing the log-in” Well, no shit! You won’t let me complete the log in!

If anyone can give me a clue on how to tie my email account to my fb account, I would appreciate it.

This game really is confusing.

I like how you unlock stuff by earning things, kind of like we could make rosebushes for v-day on TSTO. But I had to figure that out on my own. I don’t think that was explained very well. So yeah, I like the tasks in a way, it makes more sense than sending Grandpa to tell war stories on the couch for the umpteenth time, but it’s hard to get used to.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to move the cable tv antenna. WTF?

“Facebook connection error” repeating just like the disconnect error in TSTO.

Music, no music, sound, no sound. It’s like driving a 1978 dodge dart, turning on the radio and the windshield wipers activate. This thing is a clunky POS right now.

Next question, if a character needs, say, jewels or lipstick or whatever, do you have to get the other character (that can ‘get’ that item) started from within the first character?

Yes, that’s confusing.

Let me reword that. If I put Bonnie on a twerking job and she gets jewels, will it count towards whoever needs jewels? Or do I need to go to, say, Mort, click on the bubble, go down to “Make Bonnie Twerk it” and have that take me over to Bonnie?

Does that make sense?
I still feel like I’m just going through the motions with this game. It hasn’t ‘clicked’ yet.

I am with you, Joey P

Is there any way to see what items you have collected? If I collect jewels, they go up to the right hand corner of the screen, you see a yellow bar fill up, and then they disappear. Are they kept anywhere? I haven’t been able to find them. My inventory is empty.

The other thing i don’t like (and this is minor, considering) is the lack of a count with the XP.

I was building up some cash with Chris and Peter playing leap frog, which was worth 15 coins and 8 xp, but the xp icon NEVER came up on the screen. I could not tell of it was being recorded automatically or it is a bug, but my guess is it is a bug. I didn’t see the XP bar moving above. Plus, the game gives you the XP icon for everything else.

I don’t know how long i am going to give this a chance. I understand growing pains and a learning curve, but every time i have tried bring up the help menu, it won’t connect to the server. I have tried finding things, and the only time I am successful is if I stumble on something by accident. And right now, the odds of something being a bug are high, so I don’t want to waste much time on it.

By the way, has anyone else made Peter and Quagmire nap together? That’s a bit strange. Seeing those two “spoon” for two hours isn’t as funny as it sounds.

Joey, no, it doesn’t matter how you assign the tasks. If they earn jewels or whatever, it’ll get counted regardless. And, in regards to SPF’s question, those things you earn don’t go into your inventory, they get automatically counted by whichever task or skin or character you’re working to unlock. So you don’t even have to worry about it. The yellow bar that pops up will show you which skin/character it is counting towards and whether you need more of them.

Stink Fish Pot, many of the things you are complaining about are identical to Tapped Out. Building roads is identical to Tapped Out. Playing anonymously versus having a login is identical to Tapped Out. And the help section is miles better than Tapped Out. Except for your problems connecting through Facebook, I don’t see a lot of glitches here. I’m pretty impressed with their rollout, considering this is only Day 3 for them. Tapped Out seems to find a way to break their game every time they add a level.

Mort needs me to place “1 Quahog Bank”. Is that the same as Quahog National Bank I see in the list of buildings?

It seems like “1 Quahog Bank” is the name of a place, but now I’m thinking they juts want me to build a bank. I just don’t want to build the wrong one, but it’s the only one I see listed and it’s all I have left for Mort.

Well, yes and no.

For example, in TSTO, you are asked at the splash screen to log in or play anonymously. On Family Guy, you immediately enter the game and it starts completely over for you (if you have signed out), with no indication that you need to sign back in. It also doesn’t tell you to sign back in. Now that I know that the sign-in page is available by clicking on the little calculator-looking icon, and then going to account info, this shouldn’t happen again. But it is backwards. TSTO lets you know right away if you are logged in or not, before you enter the game.

Also, I have no idea what the help feature looks like since I have never seen it. It has a 100% failure rate for me.

The Facebook connection glitch is STILL there. I cannot attach to FB no matter what I try. All I get is Consuela wagging her finger at me and saying “no, no, no” (and that is only if the sound is working).

This morning, I woke up to find every person I put on a task still on that task, with the exact amount of time left on the task. What happened is that the game didn’t give me any time credit for not playing. For example, Chris was on an hour long task. I set it right before going to sleep last night. This morning, when i opened up the game, he was still doing that task, and had over 50 minutes left! That’s not a good glitch.

Moving things has continued to be a problem. Sometimes, an item moves just as you would expect. Other times, it won’t move at all and i find myself hitting the check mark to start all over. You shouldn’t have to fight to move something, especially when the game itself has very little on the screen to deal with. But items seem to lock up.

I am not impressed. I cannot get into facebook, and i did everything, including uninstalling and reinstalling the app. If the app has to be physically on for all the tasks to complete (i know this isn’t always the case, as I have shut it off and come back with the tasks completed, but it was for me last night), i can’t play it.

I want to like this game. But each day I am getting more and more frustrated by the bugs. One of the basic, fundamental things for any game like this is to be able to have your characters work overnight, so you can put them on long stretches of time where they are occupied to achieve their quests. Last night was completely wasted for my game.

Hello anyone!

Here’s a question I haven’t been able to answer yet.

I have Mort standing by his store. There are a few bubbles above him, each activities that must be done in order to finish his “quest” or whatever it is.

One of the bubbles has a number of different choices that you can choose, and I assume only one needs to be completed to remove the bubble from above Mort’s head.

So, one of the bubble’s options is “make Bonnie Twerk it!”

So, here’s my question…

Do you need to hit the “go” button on the “Make Bonnie Twerk it” option from the bubble choices for it to register? Or if you just go to Bonnie and choose her “twerk” activity, will it register everywhere a “Bonnie Twerk” is required?

I just re-read this, and i don’t know if it will make sense to anyone.

I asked the exact same question, the answer in post 28 is that no, it doesn’t matter how you assign the task, it just needs to happen. At least that’s the case with collecting things, I’m guessing it’ll work in cases like this as well when another character just needs to do something as well.

I’ve started assigned long term tasks (overnight/at work) based on what might collect things rather then points/cash. It’s a bit of a PITA to go through everyone and all the outstanding tasks to see who needs what and then cross-refrence that to see who’s available and then multiply that by what chance they might actually have of getting it etc etc etc.

Now, I just say…Peter might get a feather for this 8 hour job, done. Quagmire will get something for this 4 hour job, sure we’ll send him on that and go down the line that way.

They’ve got to find a better way to get this all organized. I can’t believe the beta testers thought this was okay.

Joey,

Sorry. I read that post, but for some reason forgot about it when I posted my question.

This game has been very frustrating for me. I think (although I am not positive) that if you close your screen with the amount of time left in a task up on the screen, the clock won’t advance on any of your tasks. At least, that’s one guess i have.

As i mentioned in a post this morning, none of my tasks i started last night were any closer to completion over 12 hours later. When I went back into the game, it was like i had just left. This happened again today, when I set Chris on his one hour booger task. I left the game with 58 minutes and 50 seconds left in that task (I checked right before leaving) and when i came back, the task had not advanced at all. I am guessing as to what is making this thing hang like that.

I also have absolutely no way to log myself into facebook. I will send a note to the developer, as this is a major flaw for a game that expects you to use facebook as the way to get neighbors.

Ok, i just realized something.

You all probably know this, but for those that don’t, this would have been a nice thing to know.

For all the bubbles containing different tasks above Mort, I thought you only had to perform one of those tasks to make the little bubble go away. I just discovered you have to do ALL of the tasks in each of those little bubbles.

I have no idea why I thought it was the other way, but after I figured this out, I felt a need to share it. This one little nugget will make it much easier to pick which tasks to put each character on.

My main challenge is the lack of money and space - once you have built the bank and MiniMart, you’re told to buiold a building for Bruce and then collect 4000 just to build the building needed for Lois (can’t think of the name) however by now you will have run out of space so first you have to spend money buying another tile which means you can’t built either of the next buildings required

Hey, SFP

You might try the subreddit. I looked quickly and didn’t see any answers to your specific issues but TinyCo sometimes responds to people with solutions.

I just looked at reddit, and thank you for forwarding that.

It seems to be a pretty good place to start. There is someone from tinyco. That is answering questions (at least, he identifies himself that way).

I also finally got into the help menu today, and it looks like they have shut down the facebook connection for about 2 weeks. It seems they have having major issues with it, so they have shut it down for repairs.

Is anyone still playing this game?

I have tried to get into it, but there are a number of annoying things I’ve come across. For example, right now, I have 5 different tasks in my task list, and they all require Peter. That is no fun, since it will take about a week to clear everything, while no other character is asked to do anything.

The other thing that bugs me is these little “rewards” you need to gather to help create an outfit for Peter or Quagmire. The game says that a gerbil is “rare”, but you need 6 of them to fill out one of the requirements for Quagmire’s outfit. Ok, but there is only 1 task that can even generate a gerbil. So, each time I see Quagmire not busy, the only task I put him on is the one to potentially create the gerbil. That is beyond boring. And if he doesn’t get a gerbil, (or even if he does) you have to keep making him do the task until you get the required number of gerbils.

This is the same for lipstick and the compacts. And the compacts, I believe, are “very rare”, but you still need 6 of them, and there is only one task so far that could potentially give you a compact. So, I will have each character doing the same tasks over and over again that generate the little prizes until the requirements are met. That isn’t fun. It is boring.
Also, I don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but I bought the golden pool for Peter (I don’t know why it was required, but it was a task, so I bought it.). It cost me everything I had saved up to that point, which was $2000. After a while, I went back into the decorations list to see what else was in there, and the pool was listed for $100. I didn’t have the money so I didn’t buy one. But today, the pool now costs something like 500 clams. (Not sure if that’s the exact number, but you get the idea). Very strange how things are changing price almost daily.

If the pool actually did something or returned some money or XP, I would have tried to get more of them when they were $100, but it doesn’t. It just takes up space, which is more valuable to me than anything else right now.
For me, I have time to visit the game maybe 3-4 times daily, but the visits are short. The good news is that there is no Krustyland-type thing that you have to go visit that takes time to get into and out of, and that makes visits much quicker. Plus, with no friends (or neighbors), you don’t have to visit anyone else’s town.

I also have very little to tap, obviously, so once I clear the buildings and put the 5 or 6 characters on a task, I leave again. Visits take about 5 minutes.

I am not sure where this is going. Once I can add friends, I will be curious to see if it beings the game down to a crawl, or if it makes it more interesting.

I am only able to generate about $2000/day, so that is usually enough to spend on one thing, empty my piggybank, and start all over again the next day. I hope that once I get over this period of having little or no money, things will pick up. But right now, I am bored with the game. I have already made Quagmire play with a gerbil 6-8 times, and he’s only given me back 2 gerbils. YAWN.

I want to like this game but it’s not really doing it for me. The mechanics seem like they need work and it seems like the game pushes spending actual money even more than the Simpsons game does. I could easily see myself deleting this one just to get some space on my Kindle Fire.

Visiting friends seems to give a ton more premium currency than Tapped Out. Ollie hands out a free clam every day.

I like the item collection system to gain rewards and like being able to choose which tasks are needed to move forward. They probably need a better tutorial or a reference that stays on for longer until folks get the hang of the gameplay.

Do you have any more friends other than Ollie? I only have him and I get one clam a day from him, but i was wondering if his was the only town to do this, or if every town you visit gives you one clam? If that’s the case, that would be great.

I am surprised you like the collection system. I don’t mind it if you had to grt only one or two of something. But right now, I am trying to get Lois. She requires 6 lip sticks (which are listed as RARE) and 6 glasses of wine, which right now you can only get from one of the buildings and bonnie twerking, I believe. So, you have to make bonnie twerk over and over in the hopes that you get a glass of wine. She has been twerking for me ever since I got lois’ tasks. This just seems stupid to me, as it is just annoying to do the same things to grind out an item. I’d prefer if they just made you wait for three days and let you do whatever tasks you want while you wait for the time to pass.

I guess it doesn’t matter, since you have to make the characters do SOMETHING. But Chris has been in the house with tissues since I can’t remember, and Jerome has been plucking his Afro for days now. Mort has been hiding like a turtle for over a day.
