I’m not much of a television viewer but I have friends that adore this show. They record it and every once in a while insist on showing an episode to my wife and me. I can honestly say that I’ve never laughed once at it.
Now that they’ve got a Wii, they’re sending me Family Guy Miis.
And then the worse followup, Brian and Stewie are in bed in the dark after Brian and girlfriend had a fight, and Stewie tells Brian to get back at her he should have sex with someone…anyone…oh, the next person you see, and then turns on the light and looks him in the eyes
And this past episode, I think he asked Brian to kiss him or some such.
I have to agree with this, and I’m going to claim that it’s not just because I was in college around then. I used to rewatch the first 3 seasons, thinking how (maybe not great) actually fairly consistently decent the show was. Then they decided to continue it, and it was ok, but now it’s just gotten not so great at all.
Someone mentioned getting at least a laugh or two out of every episode, and that’s why it’s funnier than the Simpsons. I used to feel like that about the first 3 seasons, but now I’m lucky to have a chuckle at all in an episode. It’s sort of turned into the Sunday comics for me (ok, maybe that’s a little harsh).
I think I’m jumping off this bandwagon until I hear more of a buzz about it, then I’ll go back and watch if they get funny again. Kind of like I did with the Simpsons.
I think it was one of the episodes this season, Brian and Stewie move into an apartment together for some reason, and Stewie…offers himself. I’m not sure what the fuck the writers are thinking. There was also a one-liner joke about Stewie wanting Brian on Sunday night’s episode.
I do agree with the general consensus here but this episode was one of the best ever… Favorite moments…
“Hold your fire! There’s no lifeforms aboard that ship”
“…What are we? Paying by the laser?”
“You don’t do the budget Terry, I DO!”
“Besides, I know a few maneuvers”
“That’s your maneuver? You were just listing lazily to the left”
“I said, ‘Forget the health plan, I just want a railing in my work area.’ You know what they said? They said they were afraid we’d spend all day leaning up against it.”
Some aspects of the show amuse me. Herbert as Gandalf and Herbert as Obiwan Kenobi had me gasping for air I was laughing so hard.
OTOH, the way “nobody likes Meg” mutated into Peter being outright physically abusive to Meg is a real buzzkill for me. I not only don’t find it funny, I turn off the show when they use that “gag.”
I loved it when the falcon was coming in for a landing on the planet where the rebel base is and that dude with the “range finder” thing (or whatever it is) is going “ptoooo. ptoooo”.
Who would have thought to make a joke about THAT scene.
Also, after assigning starring roles to everyone, making Meg the serpent in the garbage is fucking inspired.
