Family Guy - Why is the Star Wars spoof called Blue Harvest?

The title pretty much covers it.

Blue Harvest” was the title part of Return of the Jedi was filmed under, to try and avoid attention/info stealing.

Thanks for the fast response.

Now that this thread has pretty much played itself out, I feel like I can hijack it. Has Family Guy gotten really lame? The jokes that go on too long were funny once, maybe. The self-referencing, long running gags (eg chicken fight) weren’t funny the first time around. Christ, it took the Simpsons years to fall to this sort of low.

What say you? Am I missing something?

Family Guy is funny, but its half life seems to have been shorter than The Simpons’.

South Park has them both beat. Well, that’s my opinion, in any case.

In reverse order:
Futurama (yes, I know nobody said anything about it)
Family Guy
The Simpsons
South Park
The Simpsons would go number one only because of their longevity, but I’ll discount that for right now.

Bell, yes it has. The chicken thing isn’t even the worst of it, it’s just plain not funny anymore. And this annoys me, since back in the first 3 seasons it was the best damn show around. Far funnier than the Simpsons. But it didn’t get the acclaim for it, and now it certainly never will.

The Simpsons have been going number two on TV screens for about the last five seasons.

Hmm… is there a word for spinoff/parodies/etcetera that take their title from the fake titles of other shows/movies? Like ‘Torchwood’, which was the code name for the earlier 21st century doctor who seasons, and then became a show in its own right.

Family Guy’s biggest problem is that it thinks it’s far better than it actually is. Yes, it is funny. But it’s not that funny, and never was, and if they knew it and accepted that most of their comedy sucked, they might work on (a) impriving it and (b) be a little less self-conscious abut it. The self-referenc jokes are sklightly amusing… the first time.

South Park nailed Family Guy with their bit on the jokes that never stem from the plot, and the bit about manatees picking random balls to get their flashbacks “like the time I was cosmic bowling with Mindy Cohn on Koosbane”- ugh. When will they learn a reference isn’t funny in and of itself- Ooh they said Conrad Bain, I remember him! And?

They’ve turned into their own gag about Murphy Brown and their political references “blah blah blah John Sununu”, only its “blah blah blah Great Space Coasters”. Or Gorf, etc.

Judging from the lack of love for American Dad on this board, a lot of people are missing out because I think the reason for the FG decline is Seth is using all his good writers and gags on American Dad now, like they did with Futurama.

Who’d have though when South Park started and it was just crude doody jokes, that it would turn into quality comedy and satire that kicks SImpson and FG’s ass?

I think Family Guy is still funny, and that Star Wars spoof was one of the five funniest bits of entertainment I saw all last year. . .along with Knocked Up, Superbad, and Simpson’s Movie.

I dunno. I haven’t seen Superbad yet or Knocked Up, but I have a hard time thinking that the Simpsons Movie is top 5 funny movie of the year material. Maybe I haven’t seen or heard of enough funny movies last year.

FG has definitely been in decline, but still gets me laughing out loud at least once or twice per episode, so for that alone, it’s better than recent Simpsons, and worth my continued watching. and Blue Harvest did something I didn’t think possible: made me laugh at new Star Wars jokes. As a life-long SW fan, I thought I’d seen every possible joke you could make about the movies. But they managed to find some new and funny ones, which is a pretty amazing feat after 31 years of people mining the same territory.

I didn’t like the Star Wars episode, it had it’s funny moments but 50% of it was just a recreation of the actual movie.

FG is still very funny, except I really don’t like the gay-ifying of Stewie. What happened to the megalomaniac matricidal genius from the earlier seasons? Now he wants to have sex with a dog, ugh.

Tell me about it- I’m nowhere close to a prude, but the whole Stewie now wants Brian to fuck him thing is so…stupid- I wonder if they’ll ever actually do it.

A DVD with one freakin’ episode, for that much dough?

Good joke there!

A threesome with Meg?

CMC +fnord!

When the hell did that happen?

I know Meg wanted to fuck Brian (and would have gotten away with it to if it wasn’t for those meddling kids…), but when did Stewie decide he wanted to as well?

I think it was from the direct-to-DVD movie that was split into three episodes for broadcast. Brian and Stewie are spying on…future Stewie I think?..and Stewie’s dressed up like Veronica Lake. When their target walks out past them Stewie grabs Brian and does that cliché “pretend we’re making out” thing. After Stewie says to Brian “Freakin’ shot in the dark here…you maybe wanna do something sometime?”

It’s not like Brian hasn’t been the object of human affection before.
