These two were born in the 1930s. There were a couple more, but they died when I was a kid. They were old to me, but young to die from heart attacks. Pretty much everybody on that side of the family died young. My grandmother, who died at 67, outlived all her children, but only by about a year.
*Oddly, I haven’t seen either the cousin who lives 10 blocks for me or the one in Boulder in more than two years. We email. We never get together. Although when we do get together, we have a good time.
By road, it’s about 150km from the easternmost cousin’s house to the westernmost cousin’s house - a little over 90mi. Add my brother in and it’s more like 186km (115mi). We’re all living in the same state (Victoria). One of my cousins lived in Queensland for a while… I’m not sure where exactly, but it would have been a distance of around 1700km, or a little over 1000mi.
It all got started in Germantown PA, from there we’ve infiltrated the entire eastern seaboard, parts of the Great lakes and hopped the Gulf of mexico to Texas and points further west. One hopped off in japan and for all I know we may be reinhabiting Galway Ireland (again!)
My dad’s family moved to Los Angeles when he was seven; my mother was born there. They’re both the babies of their families. By the time I was born (1971, also in Los Angeles) my mom’s three siblings had moved to the Sacramento area. The entire family remained contained in California until I was ten, when one family of uncle/aunt/eight kids moved to the Anchorage area.
I have one brother and 18 first cousins, 3 of whom are deceased. So we have:
