famous melvins

My friends and I were at Camden Yards yesterday, watching the Orioles play the Yankees. As Melvin Mora batted, we wondered whether he is the most famous Melvin in the world. Indeed, we struggled to come up with any other famous Melvins at all*.

So I turn here.

Who are other famous Melvins? Current, historical, whatever?

*The guy in the row ahead of us offered Mel Brooks. We could come up with some Mels, but I’m not inclined to count people known as “Mel” rather than “Melvin”…

**Not sure if this belongs here or IMHO, obviously move as necessary…

Mel Ott.

Mel Torme.

Melvin Belli.

OK, scratch the first two if you want, even tho they are Melvins. That still leaves the third one.

Melvyn, Lord Bragg

Then there is the influential rock band The Melvins. No one in the band is actually named Melvin though.
