Famous people with/died from diabetes?

I can only think of Ella Fitzgerald, who I think had a foot amputated.

Just occurred to me, given the many lists, and at least one book, about famous people with bipolar disease. We’re actually kind of proud of that.

Bobby Clarke of the NHL and Mary Tyler Moore.

Off the top of my head:

Mary Tyler Moore (TV)
Jerry Garcia (music)
Halle Berry (movies)
Bobby Clarke (hockey)
Wilfred Brimley (porridge spokesman)

There must be many, many more.

ETA: Beaten to it. Three hours after the OP, and suddenly it’s a race to the wire (re: MTM and BC)

Tracey Morgan

B B King.

Would this be cheating?

Good list. Thanks.

Don’t know what to do with the information now. Begin-Sadat: both peed sweet. The chinless ophthalmologist now also. Import?

Casey Johnson, heiress to the Johnson & Johnson fortune and girlfriend of Tila Tequila, died from diabetes complications.

Jay Cutler, former Commodore, current Bear and newlywed.

It’s an old list. Nell Carter died from it (probably others as well).

Bret Michaels is diabetic, so is Sonia Sotomayor, and original Rush drummer John Rutsey was too. It was not until after his death in 2008 from this disease that it was revealed that this was the REAL reason why he left the band.

Patrice O’Neal passed away a couple of years ago. Not sure if diabetes was the direct cause of his death. There could be many people with well managed diabetes that we don’t know about.

Ron Santo (Cubs 3rd baseman)

Harry Nilsson.
