Famous people with names that sound like pseudonyms but aren't

Alastair Crooke has always sounded to me like some annoying person’s made-up blog name.

Also, Siddig El Tahir El Fadil El Siddig Abderrahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim El Mahdi

“And Dick Trickle finished 23rd.”

Space, the Canadian science fiction and fantasy TV channel has (or had - I think she’s still there, but she’s not listed on their site - I’m sure I’ve seen her recently, though) an entertainment reporter named Natasha Eloi (not sure of the spelling), which I always thought was the absolute best name for someone on a science fiction channel.

Clinton “Clint” Eastwood, Jr. Clint Eastwood sounds totally made for TV, like Rock Hudson or Dash Riprock.

Not a birth name, but Elmore Rual “Rip” Torn, Jr. was given that nickname by his dad, Rip, Sr., and is far from the only Rip Torn in his family.

Frank Zappa’s another name that sounds made up but is real.

There’s Mick Rock, the photographer best known for his photographs of '70s glam and punk rock stars. I remember reading an interview with him where he said he’d had people encourage him to go into performing himself just because his name was so perfect for a '70s rock star, but it’s pretty good for a '70s rock photographer too.

Storm Large

Disney story man and artist, T. Hee

David Cullen Rockola, who was making “Rock-Ola” juke boxes long before Rock and Roll was invented.

I had a friend once who would not believe that Duran Duran’s lead singer Simon Le Bon was using his real name. I was a little surprised when I found out, even though I knew “Le Bon” was a real name (it’s used in Murders in the Rue Morgue).

RuPaul

Whoop, I got the spelling right.

(And, if you don’t know why that’s such an awesome name for a scifi nerd, get out of my house. … No, really, look here and learn.)

That reminds me of another Disney animator: Ub Iwerks (although he did simplify the spelling from the original Ubbe Iwwerks).

David Bowie’s real name (David Jones) sounds more like a pseudonym than the pseudonym that he actually uses.

His son, originally best known as Zowie Bowie, now goes by Duncan Jones. I think they can both reasonably be considered his ‘real’ name.

But that doesn’t sound like a pseudonym. It just sounds like an ordinary Arabic name. And he does actually use a pseudonym.

One of the TV meteorologists in Chicago (apparently now in NYC) was Amy Freeze.

Coulda knocked me over with a feather when I heard that Lucy Lawless came into her name honestly ( not born with it, but married a man with the last name of Lawless.)

British politician Jack Straw. An over-the-top Olde English name even without the revolutionary allusion.

A baseball pitcher named Rollie Fingers? Yeah, right.

“Rider Strong” REALLY sounds to me like a porn star pseudonym…

The Marx brothers and the Lennon sisters (my dad has an LP).
