Fargo S2

Any rumors or guesses as to what characters/events/era the third season will be based on?

ETA: The KC crew sure seem like an interesting bunch.

Nope, and since it’s a Welsh name it’s also a pretty strange for it to be borne by someone who is apparently an ethnic German with strong ties to the home country.

I don’t think they tied Floyd to Germany as Otto’s father and Otto were. The only background reference I remember for Floyd is Bear? mentioning the family ties to the Winnipeg mob were through Floyd. She married Otto and could be a third or fourth generation American or Canadian.

Maybe he is fed up and sick of Ed’s shit. Regardless, He did try to save him from the Gerhard mob.

I found it very disappointing that Joe Bulo lost his spot (and also lost his head) so quickly. I would have very much liked to have seen more of him. I know of Brad Garret’s (the actor) work from “Everybody Loves Raymond” and he is truly a talented actor and certainly seems to be very well-schooled in his craft. I sure do hope they find a way in which he can make more appearances next season. Perhaps they might show us some of the recent history of the KC mob? I’d love to learn more about his origins.

The Joe Bulo character always struck me (stroke me? - did strike me?) as one of the more interesting (and certainly more entertaining) characters - given that he was also a murdering, thieving henchman and an all-round dirty SOB - on top of everything else.

We’ve seen her making Zopf and, if I recall correctly, peppering her speech with German words. If she’s not of German ancestry herself, she seems to have assimilated rather strongly into her husband’s culture.

I’m guessing you are mostly joking about this. But the more that I think about it, the greater the possibility that the show runner just might have a surprise in store for us.

In the previous season, we were surprised by Lester Nygaard becoming a real tough guy and giving Malvo a very hard time. Lester displayed some serious cunning and brutal violence towads Malvo. Remember that bear trap? That was brutal.

I would not go so far as to say that Ed and Peggy might be Russian “sleeper agents”. But just consider what we’ve seen of them so far:

Ed had a fight (to the death) with Rye Gerhardt in his garage. He also survived a fight to the death with one of Dodd’s henchmen in the Butcher Shop and also survived Charlie trying to shoot him dead. We’ve seen Ed display some remarkable agility and physical abilities far above and beyond an “assistant butcher”).

Remember how Ed jumped out of the way when Charlie pointed a gun at him and tried to pull the trigger? How often can someone leap out of the way of a gun like that? Pretty awesome for an assistant butcher. We’ve also seen Ed do something similar with Rye Gerhardt and also the killer that Dodd sent.

We also saw Ed having a mental struggle with the cops and he would not surrender any info. Just my opinion, but I think most citizens would have coughed up the info the police wanted almost immediately. But Ed managed to resist them. Not an easy thing to do. I am hoping we may be given a big surprise concerning Ed & Peggy. I have no idea what that might be. But it sure does seem as if they have had some kind of professional training in self defence - both mental and physical. They also seem to have won when up against some very serious criminals and also the police. Remember how Peggy took out Dodd? That would not have been easy for anyone. To my mind, it seems extremely unlikely that a little lady (hair care person) could have done that.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we might yet learn that Ed & Peggy are no ordinary milktoasts. I’d love it if it turns out they are not really what they appear to be on the surface.

Not to negate anything you said, but…

Didn’t we hear that Ed didn’t fight in Vietnam because of a medical condition? I seem to remember mention of a kidney issue.

Also, it’s “milquetoast”.

OK. Let’s say Ed has a kidney problem that kept him out of the military. That doesn’t mean that he couldn’t have gotten training in self-defense by many other agencies or people. It just means he wouldn’t have got it from the Army.

As far as “milquetoast” goes, I thank you for the correct spelling. I had no idea it wasn’t spelled like it sounds. That’s good to know.

Interrogation techniques. He is trying to break through Ed’s denial, and get him to stop pretending everything is all right. Also, Ed could have helped him cut off the gang war, and didn’t. Now Lou has a lot of dead folks on his hands, and more to come, and he’s not about to let Ed play Mr. Nice guy after allowing all that to go down.

I heard “Nail” Salon, not “Beauty” or “Hair” salon.

I’m betting Ed was a high school wrestler. (He did mention having “just the one kidney” though) and maybe a football player. He’s still young enough to be athletic.

There’s an all-around theme of all the Fargo franchise, in which these nice, normal people turn out to have incredible grit and strength. They are sweet and wonderful until they can’t be anymore, and then they’ll do what’s necessary. If you’re lucky, they don’t find that they enjoy it. The contrast is what’s so compelling, especially when they state the facts in that “Minnesota nice” accent. Ed needs money, and he’ll sell Dodd to the highest bidder. He would have preferred to give him back to his family, but they weren’t taking his calls, and he has no more time to waste. He knows hes starting a life on the run though, and I could see him ending up working for KC.

Remember Jean Lundegard in the movie kicking free and running barefoot into the snow still blindfolded? And not just Lester in Season 1, but his wife too. Her decision to hold on to the better life she thinks Lester will provide for her. There’s a calm, grim, matter-of-factness to each of their switching to bad actions when necessary. Like a farmer cutting the head off a pig when the time comes; it’s just what has to be done.

Lou too. He tried the high road, it got him nowhere; he’s done now.

I’'d almost buy this theory as a possibility, if we never had any quiet, alone scenes with the two. If both are sleeper agents I don’t think they’d act like ordinary folks when they’re home alone talking with each other. Maybe one of them might be an agent? I don’t know. Actually, I’m hoping they’re just who we think they are.

I just want to say that I really liked this post

You remember correctly — she called the guys who killed her husband “Hosenscheissers,” which is German for “poopypants,” or more precisely, “pants shitters.”

Me, too. I don’t buy that Ed and his wife are something other than what they appear, but they certainly, when their backs are to the wall, are prepared to reveal just how thin the veneer of “Minnesota Nice” is.

Thinking about it more, Bulo’s seemingly premature demise, along with the obviously well-storied Undertaker’s very sudden demise, make me suspect a setup for a season three based on their previous exploits.

That’s a good thought. Along with the early days of the Fargo and KC mob.

I am going to miss the Peggy and Dodd show.

‘god damnit’

Just had to say I enjoyed the hell out of the Peggy, Ed And Dodd show tonight. Kirsten Dunst is killing it.

I’m still laughing at Dodd trying to convince Ed that something was wrong…
