I’m writing here in case any of you are fans of the show Farscape and would like to know about the cancellation. The Scifi Channel (USA Networks) has decided not to exercize their rights to the 5th season. The sets are being torn down at the end of next week.
This came out in a chat on scifi.com with Ben Browder, David Kemper and Ricky Manning.
If you’re interested in saving the show please contact Scifi
Well, unfortunately the show has jumped the shark (it started when Zan left, though it was still tolerable up until they blew up the command carrier). This year it’s been next to incoherent and I suspect Sci-fi knows they have a dead parrot on their hands.
I have to admit, I mostly agree with RealityChuck. Without a Big Bad to worry about (Crayce or Scorpius), this season has pretty much been Lost in Space – every episode they encounter new aliens who do oogy things to them for no particular reason. Incoherent is really the perfect word for it.
And how come all aliens seem to live in a Mad Max aesthetic? Don’t they have, like, suburbs in outer space? You know, places with nice lawns where no one tries to kill you?
Still, I thought the series had some hope of redemption. And without Farscape, the SciFi Channel is going to be reduced to running the same dreary horror flicks and reruns that they picked up at some $5.00/tape garage sale and have been running every holiday weekend since before the time of which the memory of man declaimeth not to the contrary.
sigh Another good show killed by incompetent idiots. I blame SciFi for one. They love to kill shows early… remember First Wave? Not to mention having such long hiatuses. I swear for every 3 new episodes they handed us 6 old ones in a row after that. The gaps were just too big.
Second the writers for the last two seasons have sucked. They must have been smoking weed or on acid, they have been that bizzare. Such a shame… it had such potential. R.I.P.
I still enjoyed Farscape (though I could never understand its season structure). I liked that it didn’t keep regurgitating the same show over and over. They did have a big bad to worry about, building itself up for season 5 - the Scarens.
Sets are being torn down Wednesday. It’s probably too late to save. What a shame. It was inevitable. There’s only been one show on TV that I liked enough not to miss that has had a sustained run.
Damn shame; that was one of the most original shows I ever saw on tv; actually the only reason I switched to digital cable was to keep getting the Sci-Fi Channel, so I could see Farscape. I won’t have much reason to watch that channel now. I will miss a show that has lines like “Don’t make me tongue you.” In fact, I thought of it as Sci-Fi’s flagship show.
I rather enjoed Farscape this season. Individual espisodes are often thier best ones. It allows for more character development and humor. They are able to be creative and explore their medium. The plot driven ones are exciting but it isn’t what makes Farscape great. It is a true shame this show is going off the air.
Now I have to pray that Firefly is as good as advertised because most other space shows suck (Andromeda, Enterprise, etc.).
Longshot question. What is the possibility of another network swooping in at the last minute and saving the show? Pure fantasy on my part, but please indulge me.
