Fashions you never got

Or if you don’t want to wear high heels (and I mean, really high) all the time. I’m 5’6", and I absolutely can’t wear most regular jeans unless I wear heels at least 3 inches high. I am much more a Chuck Taylor girl than an heels girl, so it’s a pain in the ass to find jeans. I usually buy the “short” lengths, but sometimes the proportions are off on those, because I’m not really short. I just found a bunch that look pretty good at Steve & Barry’s, of all places, if any one has the same problem. And only 8.98 a pair! Crazy!

double post

I followed that link and backed up one level to “women’s sleepwear” and found Cotton Knit Sleepshirts and got all excited! Wow, those look comfy! And they’re under $10!

So I picked my color and then looked at the “select size” dropdown. Here are my choices…

M:Mens M = Womens 10-12
L:Mens L = Womens 14-16
XL:Mens XL = Womens 18-20
2X:Mens 2X = Womens 22-24
3X:Mens 3X = Womens 26

pout
I wear a women’s 6 (or an 8 if it is something with buttons that is tight across the boobs), or a child’s “Large”… I worry that a size 10-12 will be like wearing a flour sack :frowning:

Well, I certainly won’t get any then.

It’s just a sleepshirt. I’d say you’d be fine with the 10-12 because it’s just one big long t-shirt.

Yeah but I don’t like to sleep in baggy things. They tend to twist around me and bunch up

Pleated pants! AAAARRGGHH. These are not flattering on ANYone, yet they’re still widely available. I have to monitor my husband closely, or he’ll sneak some home (his logic being, that well they sell them so they must not be that bad.) If you’re chunky, they make you look chunkier. If you’re skinny, they make you look chunky in a strange place. Stop the madness!

I wore that in 1988. Or, at least I wanted to - but my mother wouldn’t let me, so I wore something a little bit longer and a little bit puffier and a little less off the shoulder. But, it was supposed to be that. It looked stupid then, too.

After this year’s experiment in fashionable jean buying (partially chronicled in IMHO), I’m happy to hear that low rise is going out of fashion. Because that’s a trend that will simply not work on me.

But empire waist-ed stuff does not look good on people. I don’t care how many times the people on either version of What Not to Wear try to pretend otherwise, it doesn’t. Maybe it would with the “correct” fit, but if so, I’ve never seen anyone wearing an empire waist shirt that was correctly fitted. And yet, it keeps getting churned out.

Wierd piercings. “Weird” as defined by me. I know that the people who got them must like them, but I find them entirely aesthetically unappealing.

I don’t actually have any piercings myself, but to me, “weird” piercings generally are situated where they don’t show in polite company. One of my particular gay subcultures (I almost typed “cubculture”, which would have been appropriate, though a typo) tends to contain an unusual concentration of piercings in places that it would seem as if they were somewhat…in the way…and I’ve always found myself treating…um…members and adjacent areas that are so pierced rather gingerly when I have occasion to handle them at all. It’s not so much that the piercings weird me out, but that I can’t quite get over the idea that it doesn’t HURT to handle said piercings. Or at least that the person involved doesn’t mind the consequent pain (or even enjoys it).

Ordinarily I don’t wear pajamas; but if I go to visit my mom or sister, I’m going to need something for then, especially if i stay at home and don’t get a hotel.

I like silk blouses and i want them for a work wardrobe. I ask about the jeans and heels because i can’t figure it out, and I was hoping someone here knew something about it.

About the bras, i think both types at Walmart had varying amounts, including some sports bras. It’s bad enough i have to wear these horrible, stupid things and I don’t need any padding, just fabric cups.

[Yes, most days i’m in a horrible crappy mood.]

They can look ok, but only if the man has any shape to the legs such as a cyclist - others just look like silly stickleg supprted bodies

I’ll stick with current things in my own culture and region, there’s lots of weird stuff I don’t get, but then that wasn’t meant for me to understand.

-Accent walls are dumb.
-Paddle boarding is not cool or comfortable and will not last.
-yoga pants look good on 30% of women and even they look silly walking around Walmart with them on.
-pierced eyebrows or the bull nose ring, very few can pull them off, but even then it never adds anything positive to their look.
-the modern minimalist style all the rage in fast food restaurants is bizarrely barren and uninviting.
-women’s jeans almost completely shredded on the front of the legs.
-Botox and the Angelina Jolie lips need to go.

ETA: ugh, zombie thread.

Very short hair or shaved head on a guy when paired with a big, bushy, Duck Dynasty beard.

Especially unattractive on zombies.
