And that’s the thing–this isn’t a celebration of their daughter’s high moral values, this doesn’t celebrate morality in general, but morality only as it pertains to sexuality. We’re not having fancy dress parties to laud our daughters’ commitments to feeding the hungry, clothing the naked or comforting the sick–we’re celebrating Virginity with a capital V.
You know, if we were all part of a primitive tribal society, I could see this kind of thing celebrated, along with vision quests and male circumcision at age 12, etc.
