How about For Baby (for Bobbie) For Baby (For Bobbie) - YouTube
I do like the Paul Simon song. Hadn’t heard it before.
How about Carole King, Now and Forever?

I searched long and hard for a non-traditional, more recent song for my daughter’s father-daughter dance 9 months ago. She said it was my choice, but that she had veto power.
I ended up with “My Legs Are Weak” by Paloma Faith.
I am not much of a dancer so I needed an easy tempo. I love the melody, and I liked these lyrics:
“Goodbye sweet angel
Sail away on teary seas
Tattooed the time we had
On my memory
My legs are weak.
When I close my eyes I see you,
The dimples in your cheeks,”
However, and this is probably a disqualifier for most people, I took the chance that none of the audience would actually listen to the full lyrics because the song is actually about someone who died. :eek:
Jimmy BuffetLittle Miss Magic.
I like what he said once. He said if a musician doesn’t write a song about their child they may as well give up the profession.
“I Loved Her First” by Heartland.
“Cinderella” by Steven Curtis Chapman.
You don’t want to look into the origins of that last song, by the way. Too heartbreaking.
No tangos, that would be icky.
Unless you camp it up and make her hold a rose in her teeth.
I really like this version by Audra Mae and The Forest Rangers: https://youtu.be/AaPEe4EwTEU
If you are both of the geeky persuasion, there is the song my daughter used at her wedding a couple of years ago, from Buffy- the musical episode.
I know its overused- But I like “My Girl” is that the Temptations?
If you want to be cruel and make people break out in tears- the bride as well- try “She’s Leaving Home” by the Beatles.
Ugh, my wife let my MIL come up with the song for her to dance with her dad (and I had to dance with my MIL)
My MIL chose Through the Years by Kenny Rogers. That sucker comes it at just under 5 minutes.
Torture.
For God’s sake don’t pick Through the Years!
Frank Sinatra - The Way You Look Tonight
Did a simple box step with the daughter that actually received quite a few compliments.
Hey Tinker, what;d you go with?
If you’re feeling really frisky, there’s always Billy Idol’s White Wedding.
After you pick a nice one, if you want to crack up the audience, collude with the D.J:
{inspired by the work of Tim Hawkins: Inappropriate Wedding Songs}
D.J: And now for a special song for father and daughter
{D.J. starts “What’s Love got to do with it?”}
Father: Hey, stop that!
D.J.: How about
{D.J. starts “But I still haven’t found what I’m lookin’ for”}
Father: No. What’s wrong with you?
{D.J. starts “Dude looks like a lady”}
Daughter: HEY!
Well, I’m a big Dylan fan so doing Forever Young satisfies my daughter’s sense of her father as well it pleasing me. It’s a little obvious to me, but I rather expect that your average populace isn’t as savvy as the teeming millions.
Thanks all for your suggestions.
ETA: 5 days to go.
Good choice. I quoted some of those lyrics in my father-of-the-bride speech.
Have a wonderful time and try to soak in every moment. It goes by really fast.
A Solid choice! Hope it goes well & congrats to her & your family!
Thanks, guys! I’m looking forward to it.
My father and I danced to the Paul Simon song. I’ve never heard it any other weddings.
That was a contender. I have lots of respect for Paul Simon. But we both figured the Dylan song meant more to us and we could sway to the Dylan song. We’d have to learn some steps for Father and Daughter.
