Favorite burgers: a poll

We are on opposite ends of the ground meat spectrum. I’m going to sous vide my 1/2 pound burger rare, and want as little fat as possible.

It’s been well over a decade since I’ve had a proper fast food burger. But when I did, Wendy’s was my favorite. Fuddruckers had a good bison burger, if I recall. I used to love McDonald’s Big Macs too. But it’s gotta be closer to two decades since I had one of those.

In general I don’t like fast food burgers: the fried chicken sandwich is my go-to roadfood. But Five Guys is different enough and delicious enough that I’ll make an exception.

Been to Red Robin once. Burger had about a gallon and a half of mayo on it. It was disgusting. I’ll never go back.

I eat at Red Robin very frequently. I’ve never had a burger with excessive mayo.

I picked Red Robin and “other,” thinking of a regional chain called Burgerville. I’d have picked Jack in the Box too if it had been on the list.

Count me as another person who doesn’t see the appeal of In N Out Burgers. I’ve tried them a few times, and wasn’t impressed.

I think there are Five Guys around here now. I’ve been meaning to check them out. I’m off to see how close one is to me.

I don’t really eat fast food burgers much as I am often at a local sports bar for lunch. Burgers at sit down bars are much better then any on the list. But I did vote for McDonalds and Steak N Shake which are at the bottom of the list to my chagrin. Oh well, I am a leading edge boomer and a conservative so I’m getting used to sucking hind tit here on the SDMB!

I’m a little surprised that Culver’s is not performing better. Looking at their location map I see they are absent from the west coast and the northeast U.S.

Also, I’d like to see the actual numbers of votes as well as the percentages. I guess this cannot happen?

mmm

As the OP I see “101 voters, 215 votes.” Can everyone see those numbers? I assume you can multiply total votes by percentage…

Five guys has 35%, and there are 215 votes, which works out to 75.25. So I guess 75 voted for it and there was some rounding on the percentage. The ballot is secret though—no who voted for what. And I noticed earlier that Mooyah had 1% but now that we’re over 200 votes, I guess it’s under half a percentage and rounding down to 0%.

I asked Mrs. L if we’d never had Five Guys. She says no. Hmm, we’ll have to try them next time we’re jonesing.

I come from Culver’s’ heartland. They have decent frozen custard, but the burgers don’t particularly impress me. I honestly prefer George Webb’s burgers to them.

Y’know this thread’s mentions of various regional burger emporia makes me think of, after life recovers normality, a road trip that my Primary Care Physician would slap me for taking…

If “other” has to be a chain, I’ll go with Chili’s.

If other can be any place, I’ll go with the Mom & Pop shop that cooks them on Char coal. (A place near by my house)

Other: The Hat.

Followed by In-N-Out and Red Robin. 5 Guys blows.

Man! That looks good! I haven’t actually looked at the menu in a decade or more; I just automatically order the pastrami dip. I’m getting that burger next time.

In-N-Out, and Carl’s Jr.

For ‘Other’, it’s hard. Carney’s, Tommy’s, Fatburger

Is there an actual burger under that somewhere? There’s a mom-n-pop place here in the neighborhood, Haven Burger, and the eponymous H B is a burger with about twice as much pastrami, by weight, on top of it.

No website but here’s their menu:

and their Yelp entry.

I used to live two blocks from one if those. It was so good it was really hard to not eat there weekly. I didn’t realize it was a chain.

I don’t even LIKE hamburgers, but once in a while I’ll get a Whopper Jr. at Burger King. I have never lost my love for Burger King - the Whopper Jr. is somehow better than the full size it. … I’ve gotten sick as can be, twice, at Red Robin . And that idiot commercial with people stuffing their faces with fries, like it was some huge tasty treat - barf again…Wendy’s is OK, though the last time I tried going there, there were only two workers. One cooking, one taking orders and payment. After 10 minutes in the drive-thru, I went in and spent another 10 minutes waiting for someone, anyone to show up…no one did, so I left…Now, The new Bacon Garlic Chip cheeseburger at Burger King is spectacularly delicious, worth every calorie! All it needs is a bit of ketchup, the bacon is real bacon, the garlic chips are plentiful and give it some crunch…LOVE IT.

I didn’t think of them when I originally voted because I was just considering bigger chains, but there’s a local place in Sacramento called Squeeze Burger (formerly the Squeeze Inn). They have been featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, among other places. Their signature is the “cheese skirt” – rather than using a slice of cheese, they dump a couple of handfuls of shredded cheese over the burger at the end of cooking and let it melt. The end result is a “skirt” of melted cheese around the outside of the burger. You can see a demonstration of making a cheese skirt in the Food Network clip on their website.

Mrs. L and I would love to visit the Milwaukee area one day, at which point we can sample George Webb. But that will have to wait a bit.

Around these parts, Andy’s Frozen Custard is huge. The grandsons ask for it every time they visit. And it’s packed with customers almost always.
