Not counting the real (and pricey) Chicago pizzas like Lou Malnattis, Gino’s East, etc. I have to go with Pizza Hut as well.
I delivered Dominoes one summer, I can’t stand them and agree with everyone else’s assement on their bland awfullness. Funny how a lot of people agree with this.
Little Ceasar’s is pretty bad, but they’re super cheap and when you have a couple kids who only eat cheese pizzas, getting a couple for 5 bucks is a bargain.
All this talk about Shakey’s is getting me verklempt. I can tell we have some California (or at least west coast) dopers in the house. Egad, but the pizza was awesome. And the player piano. Remember the jingle sung by a barbershop quartet?
“We’ve got fun at Shakey’s <baritone> also pizza <b>”
I worked there one summer and by that time things had long since changed. But I digress. . .
Round table would be my next favorite but that’s also a left coast thing, AFAIK, so the choices here in Florida are Pizza Hut (a thousand times no) Dominos (will not dignify with a comment) Papa John’s (I’d rather go hungry) Little Caesar’s (edible but not great) and Hungry Howie’s, which would be my choice if I must order from a chain.
I am the opposite of those “I only eat at local mom and pop restaurants” types and frankly find that attitude a little pretentious. However, when it comes to pizza I am the biggest snob I know.
IMHO, the best chain pizza places in my neck of the woods (NE Ontario) are Pizza Pizza and Mrs. Vanelli’s. I find our local Pizza Hut to be far too greasy.
In NZ here. I would say Hells. They have gone international too. Hell Pizza - Wikipedia I haven’t eaten Pizza Hutt since they stopped having restaurants - but they used to be good placs to take young children for meals. I’ve never eaten at Dominos.
Generally I buy pizza bases (or pita bread) from the supermarket & make my own. The kids help. My son is a picky eater, so if we make small ones, everyone can have what they like.
Round Table; I guess I’d go with Pizza Hut if RT doesn’t count. I loved Straw Hat when I was a kid, but I went to one decades later (late 90s) and it was horrendous. In fact, I believe it had American cheese on it.
I said Pizza Hutt used to be a good place to take kids when they had restaurants.
Intergalactic Gladiator - Believe me, Hells have thought of all the possibilities in advertising. (see the Wikipedia link) A couple of them have really crossed the bounds of good taste. I wouldn’t eat there during the sketeton of Sir Edmund Hilary one.
