Anyone tried the new Domino's Pizza they claim is so fabulous? What did you think?

Per this article has anyone tried this new recipe pizza? What’s your verdict?

It’s an improvement.

The sauce is more flavorful (though really I think they just added red pepper flakes, which I’m all for. You should add red pepper flakes to anything that is not cake.), as is the crust.

But I like pizza hut, and live in a suburb in MN so what do I know about pizza anyway?

It is slightly better. The crust is a bit thicker and has some salty / garlicky flavor added. I can see where they made an effort but they really haven’t gotten away from that bland , Dominoesque mediocrity. It wouldn’t be my first choice of the chain pizzas, but I think it’s better than Pizza Hut and Papa John’s.

It’s better than it was. Of course, that’s not saying very much. It really couldn’t get any worse without becoming Little Caesar’s. Of the big chains, I still prefer Papa John’s cardboard over the others.

IMO Papa Johns has better pizza (on average) than most Mom and Pop pizza restaurants, and it’s far better than old Dominos (have not tried new) and leagues better than Pizza Hut. A hot, fresh Papa Johns pie (IMO) can go toe to toe with any mom and pop pizza.

I don’t like the new Dominos. The garlic powder on the crust, or whatever it is, doesn’t work for me. I liked the old one.

I had Domino’s about a month ago. It was still as bad as it ever was. Don’t know if that was before or after they changed. My favorite pizza was Papa Johns by far. But the one in my area shut down. I only had Pizza Hut once that I can recall. It was by far the worst. The grease driped off each slice when I picked it up. I could only eat 2 slices, and I am usualy good for a large pie by my self.

It’s better than before, certainly. I would rank it much higher than Pizza Hut and a notch or two below Papa John’s. The cheese and crust are better and I like the garlic salt on the crust, but the sauce is too sweet.

It seemed about the same to us, but since we only order it when we’re lazy or desperate, any Dominos pizza tastes good under those circumstance (though I prefer Round Table). Definitely better than the vile Pizza Hut.

I found it significantly better than before. I would have no problem ordering that over Papa John’s or Pizza Hut, but I think each of the three has something over the rest, so it’s an even race to me. And I’m a big fan of Domino’s other options, too.

I’ve only had Papa John’s once, up near Albany NY, and was sorely disappointed. I will say it was probably better than Domino’s (“Classic”; I haven’t tried their reformulated version and have no plans to do so), but nowhere near a good pizzeria pizza, or even what I would consider a bad pizzeria pizza (where my standard for “Mom & Pop Pizzeria” is derived from NYC, Long Island and Northern NJ).

I completely despise(d) Domino’s Classic pizza. Actively hated it. I would not eat it if it were offered to me for free.

Pizza Hut, on the other hand, I quite like – the big pan they bring to your table, not the little “individual pizzas in a cardboard box to go” sold as fast food. It’s not “pizza by the slice pizza”, it’s “pizza fry-baked in a pan”, which is a different enough animal to me that I judge it in a different context. I’d put it on a par with Pizzeria Uno for that kind of pizza. (I haven’t gone to either in 5+ years, but wouldn’t say no if someone suggested it.)

I thought that was supposed to be a good thing!

Has anyone tried Jet’s? They’re only in a handful of states, but they’re our favorite pizza chain by far.

Sometimes a greasy Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza is just what I need!

I much prefer Papa John’s, but we tried the new Domino’s and did find it improved. Mostly in the crust - the rest of the pizza was pretty meh but not actively nasty.

I never thought the Domino’s old pizza was bad - I preferred it to the Hut, or Little Ceasar’s. I even liked it better than Papa John’s.

I haven’t tried the new D’s pizza yet, though – when we get pizza for ourselves we use a local chain that is very good; and when we get if for the kids we get Ceasar’s because it is el-cheapo.

Tried it, made a thread about it. It’s better. But not the best. I like them because they are fast and open late.

It seems to me a very weird marketing turn. Domino’s pizza may have been terrible before, but it was certainly popular. By actually admitting that it was crap, which contradicts years of claiming it was delicious, they show us that they were playing us all for suckers. They also make fools of the people who actually liked it before, i.e., the customer base that Domino’s success is built on … our sensitive sith above providing one example.

Really? I’m not sure where you are but In Chicago there are “mom and pop” pizza joints all over the place and almost every one blows away any chain. Granted there are a couple local places here and there that just aren’t very good, but for the most part they put out a pretty good product. Of course that’s MHO.

Jet’s is frikkin’ awesome. They have the best Square pizza I’ve ever had.

Another great franchise is Hungry Howies, if you have them in your state/area. Their regular pies are great, and they just came out with a new deep dish square which is pretty damn good; not Jet’s good, but good.

I love Little Caesar’s too. It’s “cardboard” pizza for sure, but it’s got a certain flavor and consistency that I’ve always loved since I was a kid.

Domino’s is horrible, but I haven’t tried their new recipe. My bet is I’ll still hate it. I also hate Papa John’s.

Pizza Hut is okay, and I used to eat there more often as a kid/teen, but lately, I have NO desire. There’s much better options. Usually it’s Jet’s or Hungry Howie’s.

I like Dominoes over Pizza Hut, and cannot eat Papa Johns (got sick once, not eating it again), but nobody can beat Papa Murphy’s take and bake pizza. To me its well worth the loss of convenience of having to bake my own pizza to get a better pizza. Granted that doesn’t work for like office pizza parties, but everyone around here (fools) likes PH over Dominoes.

ETA: I will admit even bad pizza is better than no pizza, so I will still eat PH. (and bitch the whole time that its not as good!)
