I never tried the ramen noodles till a few months ago…heard everyone here talking about them… I cook em, drain em, dollop of margarine, and sprinkle with seasoning…makes my nose run just thinking about it!
And my FAVORITE thing is white rice - Minute rice actually. We eat it all the itme, with parmesean cheese on it (the kids love it!) I like it with garlicpowder, lemon juice and parm. cheese… Nice and stinky!
I am the king of cheap eats. Here are my suggestions, some of which have been listed above:
[ul][li]Top Raman - Many a musician has lived off of these things. I did, and even if I ever become rich, I’ll still eat the stuff. Usually I get them for anywhere from 6-8 packages for $1.00[/li][li]Tina’s Burritos - Frozen microwavable burritos. I get the Extra Spicy, which has a decent kick for such a product. Preparation hint: Defrost them before you nuke them; they cook better that way. On sale, they’re three for a buck.[/li][li]Cheap-ass frozen pizzas - You know the ones in the grocery store, the ones which run like 89¢ a pop? Well, if you cook them right on the rack, add a bunch of spices (I use garlic, crushed red and oregano) before cooking, they are quite tasty.[/li][li]Budget Gourmet Meals - Most of the items run less than a buck, and I find that two at once will fill you up, even if you are a big eater.[/li][li]Fingernails - Free, though if you try and eat from hands other than your own, you will have considerable hospital bills to worry about.[/ul][/li]Hope this helped!
As an aside, I just went 24 hours without a cigarette, so I feel your pain, friend…

Darn! I thought I was the only one who liked noodles and butter with salt and pepper! It’s also great with a cup of instant chicken bouillon tossed in.
Raman Noodles
BRRRRRRRRR! You guys who like those are much tougher than I. Having tried several types, dousing them with assorted broth’s and flavorings, I came to the conclusion that they are really rubbery strands of flavored cardboard.
I also love to buy a loaf of that cheap baked bread Walmart makes, the sliced Italian kind, and can eat it by the slice with margarine, peanut butter or Mayo and mustard on it! With chips, of course.
Ever try a potato chip sandwich with mayo and mustard? Even better with a slice of baloney in it. A peanut butter sandwich is also excellent with P chips added. (No jelly, though. That ruins it.)
Thanks for the suggestions y’all (though I don’t think I’ll be eating any potato chip sandwiches any time soon :)) I kind of got sick of the Banquet TV dinners, though they’re a great deal at $1 to $1.50 a pop. Totinos Pizza is decent. I don’t like the chopped up pepperoni, but for $1 a pizza I don’t have much right to complain.
Cup 'O Noodles is good, a little pricier than regular Ramen Noodles, but then what isn’t?
As a vegetarian, one of the hardest things was giving up Ramen noodles.
[ul][li]Pasta. Pasta galore. I got a one gallon bottle of olive oil at Costco, and a little olive oil, some fresh basil and oregano, a touch of butter, and maybe some artichoke hearts, and I’m happy.[/li][li]Canned beans. Rice and beans make a complete protein. Chick peas in salad is yummy. Chick peas in general are yummy.[/li][li]I’m with yall on the Mac and Cheese. Cabot creameries here in Vermont make this stuff called Cheddar sprinkle. It’s powdered cheddar cheese. Add a little tuna, some frozen peas, and some of that cheddar stuff, and you have a caserole, my friend.[/li][li]Grilled Cheese with a slice of tomato. You grill the tomato beforehand, which causes the sugar in the tomato to carmalize a bit. Makes the sandwich SO much better.[/li][li]Couscous. Far East makes some really yummy kinds, like parmesan or sun-dried tomato. Add some sauted mushrooms.Mmmm…[/li][li]Take one jar of cheap spagetti sauce. Dump into pot. Simmer for 15 minutes, adding olive oil, garlic and dried herbs as you go. Once the water gets evaporated, your cheap spagetti sauce will be almost passable![/ul][/li]
Cheese hot dogs. (Split a hot dog in half length wise, put a piece of american cheese that you folded into thin strips in it, cook in frying pan with lid on until cheese is really gooey.)
Mushroom Rice. (C of M soup, rice, onions, cheddar cheese. Bake until gooey.)
Chicken Pot Pie.
Chicken Kiev.
Tuna salad with cheese on a bun and baked in foil until gooey.
I have to agree with Sentinel (did I just type that?) on the peanut butter and potato chip sandwiches. My husband thinks I’m crazy but I love those cheap, thin, cardboard-like frozen pizzas. I just load them with cracked black pepper, garlic and some minced onions–mmm-mmm good!
“You don’t have insurance? Well, just have a seat and someone will be with you after you die.” --Yes, another quality sig custom created by Wally!
A Jesusfied sig: Next time I covet thine opinion, I’ll ask for it!
swimming, I’m with ya! I love chick peas! Put them and kidney beans together, add some italian dressing, dinner!
Also, put some tomatoe sauce and cheese on bread for faux pizza!
Kat: I’ve seen vegatable Ramen, but they use a chicken stock base. I find that if I eat something made with chicken stock, my digestive system cryes in protest.
Peaches: w00h00! Chick Peas ROCK. When I was but a wee Riddles, I couldn’t be happier than with a bowl of chick peas straight out of the can. My mom was so confused. “Please momma? Can I have a bowl of chick peas, pleeeeeease?”
A little persistance goes a long way. Announcing:
“I go on guilt trips a couple of time a year. Mom books them for me.” A custom made Wally .sig!
I’ve never seen it, no. But I am intriqued. I’ll have to check out the health food market to see if they have it. Is it by the same company? (Manchen, I think…)
