There was one where the gang at Cheers, always beaten by Gary’s, went along with setting Sam up for a joke by Gary.
Later in the season (if I remember it right–you can tell I’m hazy on the details) Sam plays a trick on all his friends, convincing them that they were going to be murdered by a Mafia chieftain they’d wronged. He sends them on a bus trip (witness relocation) to some out of the way place in the middle of nowhere and calls them to tell them it’s all a joke. He’s almost rolling on the floor as he says that it cost him everything he had in the bank but that it was worth it.
The episode where Frasier becomes enamored of a karaoke machine, and is singing show tunes. He’s singing the Irving Berlin song, “I Wonder Why”…
I hear singing and there’s no one there
I smell blossoms and the trees are bare
All day long I seem to walk on air
I wonder why, I wonder why
He’s driving everyone nuts, and then out of the blue, Lilith, deadpan, picks up the mike and joins in with “You’re Not Sick, You’re Just in Love”:
You don’t need analyzing
It is not so surprising
That you feel very strange but nice
Your heart goes pitter patter
I know just what’s the matter
Because I’ve been there once or twice
I know Bebe Newirth was a singer, but to see “Lilith” perform was entirely a shock!
