Mine would have to be that of the Yoruba of Africa.

I can’t imagine how anyone wouldn’t want to hear the rest of the story?

“Before the beginning, there was this turtle…”

I’m partial to the Eneuma Elish, myself.

I really like the different versions of the story told by the indians of the American Southwest. It varies from one nation to the next, but pretty much all of them have humanity coming up through a Sipapu; a hole in the sky, which becomes a body of water or hole in the ground through which they emerge into this current world.

The Navajos have different animals talking to the emerging humans on their way up, giving them gifts to help them survive the desert environment. Later Coyote gets upset that molding the stars out of dough & setting them all in the sky is taking so long, so he flings the blanket against the sky, creating the milky way.

The Hopi version has some of the first humans reaching this level meeting a character who is covered with burn scars. He tells them he is death and he rules this world.
