Thanks for all the compliments! I could use them today; already I found I didn’t make the most qualified list for a job I wanted; went to jury duty and discovered that I could have saved the drive by calling last night, because they dismissed all today’s jurors; and spent $120 at the oil change place.
And to stay on topic, I’ve always admired the name Typo Knig.

jz78817, I’ve always thought it was the best collection of seemingly random letters and numbers.
My personal favorite has always been Freudian Slit. Clever, and not at all obscure. I also liked Q.E.D. (may he rest in peace). Pithy, and fit him to a tee.

Credit for the name goes to (the even better named, but sadly inactive) Shirley Ujest, though. Looking at that thread for the first time in ten years I didn’t remember my original first choice (Cult of Perspicacity) at all. And I was very nearly The Happy Fuzzy Gay Rights Bunny based on a different thread.
Qadgop The Mercotan, in addition to being interesting, has a most cool monicker. I’m fond of obscure jokes and references, and apparently, many Dopers are, too.

Although one I do not like is Shodan. I have nothing against the real individual Doper, and can’t think of a bad thing to say about that person… but no one who’s ever played the System Shock games after dark will EVER like the name Shodan.
Just ask Shodan.

See, I’m the opposite. I find myself disagreeing with a lot of Shodan’s posts, but the name reminds me of the character in the Webcomic Schlock Mercenary, who I do like.
It’s a funny universe, isn’t it?
And let’s keep it that way.
No, in the System Shock games, SHODAN is the manipulative computer intelligence who’s using you for her own evil ends, and will likely kill you when they’re accomplished. And both games, particularly the second one, are creepy as all hell. And when the second one came out, I stayed up all night several nights finishing it… to the point where SHODAN’s voice affected me like nails on a blackboard. Brrrr.
I also have praise for Your Great Darsh Face, whose name is interesting, despite the fact that I have no idea what it means.
It is a beautiful reference to a Jack Vance novel.
I’m not sure why anyone would name themselves after a minor and depressing Jimmy Buffet song.

I’m partial to the Skald The Rhymer, if for no other reason than its inherent tautology.

The book is The Face, the fourth and penultimate book in his Demon Princes series. Not as mystical and absurd as his Dying Earth books, but still good.
