Favorite Doper names.

Seriously tho, Ann Hedonia is probably my fave. I wish I’d thought of it.

What?

From Harpo Speaks.

Always loved that. Glad everybody else does.

Nzinga, Seated
Spectre of Pithecanthropus
Diogenes the Cynic

My top three, in that order. I quite like names where I’ve been intrigued enough to look up who they refer to on wikipedia or wherever.

I don’t believe they were, but I know Eats_Crayons and Sniffs Markers were a couple for a while.

I always liked Diogenes the Cynic, although it’s nowhere near as obscure a joke as I’d like. Still, you have to respect a classical education.

:smack: Yes, yes, it would.

I also like Anaamika, just because it sounds cool.

I tend to like Doper names that evoke an image of the poster in my mind. I always pictured **Diogenes **sitting in a barrel with his laptop.

And, I’ll be damned, here’s a picture of him (in one of his better moods, clearly).

Most of my faves have been mentioned already. But I miss seeing “I have Hippos in My Garden.” Both she and her name always gave me a smile.

Erm, would somebody mind explaining Enola Straight to me?

(:smack: in advance)

Ah, the memories! I just wish he had thrown a perfect Dylan cover in there. That would have been hilarious!

The “Enola Gay” was the airplane from which the nuclear bomb “Little Boy” was dropped on Hiroshima.

:smack: indeed!

I made the Enola Gay connection. I just couldn’t figure out what Enola Straight might have to do with it.

:smack::smack::smack:

I might’ve had one Bloody Mary too many tonight, but 'splain please.

My inner 12 year old still remembers and likes My Other ride is your mother.

Anhedonia means without pleasure.

Ah, the opposite of hedonism. Duh me. Thank you, steatopygia.

There seem to be a number of "Ellis Dee"s around in rock/folk music, and nearly all of them are winking allusions to the drug. (Not to mention that Lucy thing, which of course is about a child’s drawing.)

But Jimmy Buffett’s early song “Ellis Dee” is a fairly strong rant about racial disharmony, with nary a drug reference to be seen.

Anhedonia is also a feature of chronic depression and other mental conditions.

Yep – Do you find that you no longer enjoy things that used to make you happy? is one of the psych/depression screening questions.

And making you remember three things and repeat them back later - - Sun, Saturn, basketball.

People who have recently (or sometimes not so recently) gotten sober from drugs and/or alchohol often experience periods of anhedonia, as their bodies and brains struggle to adjust to life without whatever the substance of addiction was.
