Favorite Fantasy authors

I’ll let you know just as soon as I get back on a computer that doesn’t block those kind of pages, Ino. The last one I read was Here Comes The Sun but I think that was an early one. I know I have Snow White & the Seven Samurai and Paint Your Dragon too, which were in the last couple of years or so, the latter of which was probably my favourite of his that I’ve read so far. I’ve got the two you mentioned and I think three others, although titles escape me right now.

  1. J.R.R Tolkien (of course)
  2. Terry Pratchett
  3. Roger Zelazny
  4. Stephen R. Donaldson

In that order

Well colour me wrong. Dragon was 96 and Samurai was 99. Looks like Little People and The Portable Door are Holt’s most recent books. There’s a full list here

See the first item in the list I posted earlier

I’ve seen several of his books on shelves out here (granted, the bookstore has a quite good sf/fantasy section). I think NESFA Press has published several volumes of his work.

Tangent: If you’re into old pulp fiction, you really owe it to yourself to check out the stuff that NESFA Press has been putting out.

I love Weis and Hickman. Their latest Dragonlance series (with Mina and the One God) is my favorite.

Douglas Adams is good (more humor/sci-fi, but eh.)

I used to read a lot of fantasy but steer more toward Sci/Fi now.

Of those mentioned

Gaiman
Pratchett
Tolkien
LeGuin

Some others I’ll mention for their humor would be Robert Asprin (but he has gone way downhill) and Craig Shaw Gardner.

For non published fantasy authors, I would say me.

John Crowley.

And not just Little, Big, either. (Although it is an astonishing masterpiece.) Try Aegypt, Love and Sleep, and Daemonomania as well.
