Favorite "Far Side" Memories (MAD, too)

“Hey! Look at me, everybody! I’m a cowboy! … Howdy, howdy, howdy!”

My girlfriend and I used to quote that one to each other all the time.

A man is walking his dog. They look up and there are flying saucers landing, all being flown by dogs. The dog looks at the man and says “Well, they’re finally here. Before I go: Roll over! Play dead!”.

Mine is this one, where God is adding jerks to the Earth.

“And just to make it interesting…”

My absolute favorite Far Side: An oil covered dragon with the caption: An unfortunate accident in a land called Honalee.

Absolutely," The Boneless Chicken Ranch" is my all time favorite.
This also reminded me of another favorite cartoonist, Gahan Wilson, another very disturbed mind

I think this is the one you mean–the one I came in here to post!

I didn’t even notice this was a zombie thread–oh, well! The Far Side is timeless!

And here is another of my favorites!

A kid’s sitting on the floor, apparently frozen in terror mid-tantrum. His father’s sitting in an easy chair with his finger on a small button that’s connected to a device that’s pounding on the inside of the basement door a few feet away.
Dad’s saying something along the lines of, “Uh oh, Billy! Sounds like the monster in the basement heard you. Let’s stay reeaaalll quiet and hope he goes away.”

Many of my favorite Far Sides have already been mentioned. The Professor Waxman’s time machine warm-blooded vs cold-blooded one (bottom right seen here) I found years after Larson stopped drawing them; somehow I’d missed it before, so I found it side-splitting.

Mad Magazine, I remember a Ripley’s parody (“RipUp’s Believe it or Don’t!”) which had two unforgettably funny items:

Man speeding downward, look of horror on his face, caption: “Renfrew Zets FELL from a 50-story window – and LIVED!”* *(Fortunately there was a fire escape right outside the window.)

A strange stone carving, caption: Ancient South American symbol of death! Too bad if you looked.
