Favorite Foreign Actress

Is there a foreign actress that you like? So much that you’ll watch a subtitled film? Tell us who it is and we can discuss.

I credit Laura Antonelli for my introduction to Italian comedy. Early in her career you couldn’t find a more gorgeous woman. Malizia made her a star. She plays a housekeeper for a widower and his sons. A nice example of Italian sex comedy. I don’t understand Italian and I don’t care. :o

two clips from Malizia

This was meant for Cafe. Brain farts can be lethal. I screwed up for sure.

Mods can you please move to Cafe?

By foreign, do you mean someone born in a different country, someone that acts in films filmed in other countries, regardless of language, or someone who predominately acts in foreign language films?

Someone who predominately acts in foreign language films. Films made in France, Italy, Germany etc.

For example an Italian like Laura Antonelli that did Italian and French films. Elke Sommer is German and she did a lot of European films.

I guess if you are German then an American would be foreign to you.

I was very impressed with Liv Ullmann in my youth.

I was going to say Claudia Black, who was in Farscape and is in a few movies in the US.

Not sure she is in movies in foreign language, though. She is foreign to me, though, as I’m American and she is Australian.

Audrey Tautou

I remember Liv in a horror thriller called The Night Visitor. A murderer escapes from an asylum and terrorizes the people that got him committed. I’d recommend it to anyone. It’s finally on DVD. The movie was made in Europe, but it’s in English.

Juliette Binoche is a highly talented performer and a exceptionally beautiful woman…

Belongs in Cafe Society, obviously.

Mister Owl is wise, indeed.

Penelope Cruz would be my pick, both for talent and looks.

Fanny Ardant
Gong Li

The Da Vinci Code introduced her to Americans.

Can someone recommend her better French films?

Lena Olin

Though she’s best known for English language films.

Well, Amelie from Montmartre would be the obvious one I think.

Sofia Loren.

Especially in "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’. She was smoking hot at that time.

Maggie Cheung. Beautiful lady and a wonderfully versatile actress. Try Irma Vep (one of my favourite movies), Actress (aka Centre Stage), In the Mood for Love and Dragon Inn for a good sampling of her work.

Monica Bellucci. Makes one believe in God.
