It’s hard to argue with the top three in last week’s TV Guide: Grinch, Charlie Brown, and Rudolph (though I’d reverse the last two).
The best single Christmas episode of a TV series was “So-Called Angel” from “My So-Called Life.” It ranks up with the best Christmas movies of all time.
“East is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does.” – Marx
Santa Clause is Coming To Town, I like the way it explains all the traditions. Not sure if they are the real reasons, but I like them anyway. I also love the Grinch…his dog makes the most adorable reindeer.
“Only when he no longer knows what he is doing, does the painter do good
things.” --Edgar Degas
“A Very Bundy Christmas” - Married With Children very special episode with Sam Kinnison (sp?) as “angel” showing poor Al Bundy what would happen to the family if he wasn’t there…of course they made out just fine! Smart, happy, and well off…
I just watched “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown,” and was wondering what the name of the tall, brown haired girl was. Not Lucy, Violet (tall black hair) or Frieda (naturally curly hair). And certainly not Sally.
My wife said she thought it was Peppermint Patty, before she became a hippy. She wasn’t sure if it was just Patty back then, or if it was always peppermint Patty. My wife wasn’t certain they are the same girl, just thought so.
Anyone ever hear of this before?
I suggested the twins were Marcie, before the incident. :o
It’s Patty, who’s fallen by the “Peanuts” wayside over the years (along with Pig Pen and Shermy). She and Peppermint Patty are two different characters.
Back to the thread…I’ll vote for “A Christmas Carol” with George C. Scott as Scrooge.
As a short aside, if y’all are looking for some really nice christmas music and are tired of ‘jingle bells’, run out and grab the soundtrack to “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by the Vince Guaribaldi Trio. Really nice mellow christmas music. And you’ll know every song on the CD.
Zen: SCICTT was on the Fox Family channel. They do this “25 Days of Christmas” thing where they show a whole bunch of Christmas shows every night, all month long. If you like the Rankin/Bass stuff, this is the channel to watch!
Is channel 62 out of Detroit WKBD? I’m in Flint, but thanks to the miracle of cable, I think I get that station.
The Cossack King and the Burgermeister Meisterburger (and lots of other R/B characters) were voiced by Paul Frees, best known as Boris Badenov of Rocky & Bullwinkle fame. Maury Laws did the music for most of the specials. And R/B called their peculiar brand of stop-motion puppet animation “Animagic”.
