Favorite ice skaters of all time

Who are your all-time favorites?

Mine are:

. Kristi Yamaguchi. Something about her is absolutely spell-binding. I think it has something to do with her arm movements.

. Brian Boitano. There was a choreographed movement in his Olympic routine where he flicked a piece of ice from his skate. Thirty years later, I remember it clearly.

. Meryl Davis and Charlie White. So astoundingy sync’d.

Mario Lemieux. He made everyone else on the ice look like an amateur.

I had a big crush on late 80s Jill Trenary.

Thread relocated from IMHO to the Game Room.

You made me curious and I looked her up, she’s aged very well.

Brian Orser
Brian Boitano
Scott Hamilton
Paul Wylie
Robin Cousins

I agree about Kristi Yamaguchi. She’s local to where I live, so she shows up often for charity events. She’s just a great person.

The pairs Gordeeva and Grinkov outclassed the competition for years, especially in the Olympics of 1988. I remember that year, no other pair even came close to them.

Kim Yuna, the Korean sensation.

And, I of course meant that I crushed on JT as she looked in the late 1980s and did not mean she was in her late eighties! :smack:
She’ll still look good I’m sure.

Brian Orser has become a super figure skating coach. How many skaters in the Olympics are being coached by him? I lost count, but at least three, including two of the men medalists.

I always thought Sarah Hughes flew under the radar a bit, avoided the hype, and kicked ass.

And going back a few more years, Barbara Underhill was wicked cute.

Well sure, but does he have his own cooking show?

Orser is my favorite skater ever. I was so upset when Boitano beat him for the gold (even though I’m an American). It’s nice to see how well he’s done. His Wikipedia article has a very impressive list of his current and former students.

In all seriousness I was always a fan of Elvis Stojko.

Not only a world-class skater but an accomplished martial artist. I always thought that was so cool.

Katerina Witt (GDR) and Yuzuru Hanyu (JPN)

I liked Debi Thomas, the US bronze medalist in 1988. She was also, twice, US champion.

Eric Heiden

Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean. Totally changed the sport of ice dancing, very much for the better.

Katarina Witt, hottest ever.

Katarina Witt; she is a German figure skater, Olympic champion, four-time World Figure Skating champion, and German “Ice Skater of the Century”.

I see according to that article he also coached Kim Yuna to her gold medal. Very impressive. I think she was one of the best skaters of recent years.

This is true. She was the skater I had a crush on as a kid.
