Favorite/least favorite TV show theme songs.

Weird. I wonder why they did that?

Interesting observation on Metroid

Had to look up Hogan’s Heroes. I know I’ve seen it exactly once, so not familiar with the theme/

I still have some in mind, but I want to see if people list them first…

Oh, and Chefguy got to Mission Impossible before me…

Hogan’s Heroes is one that you recognize instantly. And of course Twilight Zone has entered into our culture . When something creepy happens, someone is going to start with the do-do-do-do, do-do-do-do.

I really like “Little Boxes” from Weeds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7Ys9RkvxgI
(I hope that’s the Malvina Reynolds version, I can’t hear it at work).

Worst might be “Men” from Two and a Half Men.

Forgot to mention the Dukes of Hazzard. Great visuals to go with it- the outhouse blowing up, Daisy in her bikini, the General jumping through the air, Daisy in her bikini…

In the same vein, my least favorite is probably the theme from Tales From The Darkside. That thing starts up and I’m a tween again, lying in my bed unable to sleep because my mom is watching TFTD downstairs and I can hear the intro. Yeah, I was kind of a wimp (“was” being conditional, since I STILL don’t voluntarily watch horror movies or shows).

Unsolved Mysteries scared me.

Also like the theme for a show called “Sightings”, which I can’t find a link to.

My kids adore the theme song to Raising Hope: Daddy-O by Freelance Economy. They don’t really know the words, they just make up a sound ending in -O, then sing, “Oh, oh, oh.” It’s super cute, though I’ll be in trouble when they clue in to “Birth control, no, no, no.”

Lots of good choices here, but you’ve all missed the best theme song ever:

Magnum. P.I.

Hawaii 5-0 and the original **Star Trek ** theme song are close second and third.

Here you go.

Thanks!

Oh hells yeah. Let’s make it a trifecta and add The Outer Limits. I actually liked all three shows but continually made the mistake of watching them alone or late at night, or both.

Favorite theme? Pretty much the theme to any Norman Lear sitcom; he was the patron saint of awesome theme songs!
All in the Family
Maude (with Donny Hathaway!)
Sanford and Son
honarable mention to Good Times and One Day at a Time
Least favorite? Seinfeld. It seems like they put out the least possible effort they couldd. Plus the lack of decent theme songs recently is largely due to its influence.

Courtship of Eddie’s Father. Harry Nilsson.

But I also have to mention Wings. (Franz Schubert’s Piano sonata No. 20 in A Major).

The Waltons. A beautiful melody, beautifully played.

People, let me tell ya 'bout my best friend…

When I was a kindergartner, in the mid-70s, we used to get Courtship in syndication in the afternoon. I had morning K, so every weekday I’d come home to watch the show. I have very fond early memories of it.

Not my favorite show, but no one’s mentioned Scrubs yet. (full song – I really like it).

Some favorites:

The Name of the Game

Barney Miller

The Virginian

Ooh, so close, but you left out the best theme song ever: The Jeffersons.

“Movin’ on up/To the East Side…”

I just heard it used the other day as a reference in a different show. Even though I haven’t seen The Jeffersons in quite a while, I find myself bursting out with the theme at least once a week.

I’ve been watching 3rd Rock From the Sun on Netflix the last few days and really love the intro music. It’s a bit quirky and upbeat so it really fits the show well. Catchy little tune as well.

I agree with the Dopers who said Community and Scrubs. I’ll also add Flight of the Conchords, The Office, and Bored to Death.

The worst theme song?
Californication. A pity, too, because the show is so great. But the only thing I can think when I hear this is, They just completely did not give a shit what the intro song was
