Favorite Love Songs

A couple from John Denver – Annie’s Song, and Come And Let Me Look In Your Eyes.

Love this song. This is the first time I ever heard the original version, as the one I am most familiar with is the 311 cover. This song is forever locked for me in one moment in time. My one year wedding anniversary (2007) I was abroad in Mexico teaching English, going through the art shops to find a good art souvenir for my trip, very much missing my husband. At precisely the moment my eyes fell on a painting of two lovers embracing, that song came on the radio. I bought the painting, it is still hanging on my living room wall.

My current favorite love song is Hozier’s ‘‘Work Song.’’

When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I’ll crawl home to her

In a similar vein, Sanctuary by Madonna.

My top choice, my first wedding dance, a bit of an odd choice:

Another one:
Wild Horses, by Rolling Stones or the cover by The Sundays

Hmm… maybe This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) by Talking Heads? (Although that video sounds a little harsh to my ears.)

I’m just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I’m dead

I find Lennon’s elation/desperation on “Don’t Let Me Down” convincing. And on the other pole, “My Girl” seems more songcraft that actual emotion, but is also a favorite.
