Favorite Motto/Slogan/Mantra?

My favourite motto is a line from a Magnus song:

Rigardu, kaj vi ekvidos.
Look, and you will begin to see.

If I am ever awarded arms, that will be my motto.

The tourist board had their advertising translated into Latin?

“Don’t marinate the captain in soy sauce”? What does it mean? “Not every mariner is a captain”?

“I am not a sailor, I am a captain” from La Bamba. Gay friends seem to like it.

It’s from the song “La Bamba,” and translates to “I’m not a sailor, I’m a captain.”

I was dating a Spanish girl when the movie “La Bamba” came out and the song regained popularity. She translated the song for me, and I can still remember it.

ETA on preview: I see that don’t ask beat me to it, but I’ll post it anyway.

Thanks!

Now I’m going to have “La Bamba” stuck in my head for a week…

Gandhi is supposed to have said, “Become the change you want to see in the world.” I’ve always liked that, although I looked unsuccessfully once for a cite that he did in fact say it.

If you can’t dazzle 'em with your brilliance, baffle 'em with your bullshit.

Never strike first. Strike second - and last.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.

“That’s how they get ya”

Sixty years ago my mother gave me a motto nicely framed that I hung on my wall and have tried to live by ever since: It is better to be rich and healthy than to be poor and sick.

"I don’t walk so that a child may live!

That’s how it works!"

“Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.”

Have the verse (2 Cor 12:10) tattooed on my leg. It’s sort of the Bible version of what twickster said upthread.

The Lord loves a workin’ man, don’t trust whitey, see a doctor and get rid of it.

Nah, just kidding. My current favorite is actually

“Once you go black, you never talk to your uncle again.” - lieu

Thanks, MOL. Now it’s stuck in my head too.

(And did you know that it shares the same chord progression as Neil Diamond’s “Cherry, Cherry?”)

That’s an important rule of thumb too…
