It skewed to washed up performers and has beens. We watched the first three seasons, and you could tell the people who liked working with the Muppets versus the ones who didn’t. The guest stars got a lot better as the show became a hit. But Jim Nabors? Yick.
Yeah, but it was the first season. There are some great ones in there, Carol Burnett’s episode was great, as was Sandy Duncan’s and Rita Moreno. And come on, Candace Bergen, Phyllis Diller, Valerie Harper… these performers weren’t has beens back at the time! I think, for a first season of a show that probably sounded kinda weird to the performers they asked, they did pretty well for that first season.
But I’m a lover of all things Muppet, so I might be biased. But I do agree with yick to Jim Nabors, lol.
Danny Kaye, performing Inchworm.
I kinda like Jim Nabors. His speaking voice is goofy, but his singing voice is gorgeous.
Edited edited to add: What was Rita Moreno saying to Animal in the Fever skit?
Kermit’s Nephew singing “Halfway Down the Stairs” was something I have not see nand yet have not forgotten since the seventies.

I got your thread winner right here.
I’m still rather surprised this made it to a kids’ show.
It’s hard to pick just one favorite, but this is my favorite Swedish Chef bit.
These were going to be my two answers (the first cracks me up the most, the second is just awesome in every way).
Astonishingly, these are the two I was gonna mention. Talk about ways to scar a child! They’re both pretty freaky even as an adult.
“Danny Boy” leaves me helpless with laughter. My 2-year-old loves “Banana Boat”.
