Favorite new CDs?

Well, it isn’t new to me, but I have been listening to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea a lot lately. Not sure why, exactly.

I second the Garden State soundtrack. Umm… the new Bright Eyes EP isn’t SO bad - some of the better songs are upbeat with out all that damn pretense that infuriates me with Conor’s other attempts. Fiery Furnaces, Blood Brothers (again), The Artichoke (26 Scientests coming up - rejoice!), and hopefully soon I will be listening to Camper Van Beethoven’s new release. Good time for music, I say, although I would still like to be living in the '60s.

Ted Leo/Pharmacists - Hearts of Oak

Easily the best CD I’ve bought in the past couple of weeks (although I finally got Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain this morning). “Where Have All the Rudeboys Gone?” was one of my favorite singles from last year, but I’d held off buying it because I figured the rest of the songs wouldn’t be nearly as good. The entire thing is fantastic, but the other singles “The High Party” and “Tell Balgury, Balgeary’s Dead” are high points. Good, catchy, smart guitar rock. And Ted Leo’s voice is awesome.

Earlier this week I got another album that had been on my wishlist forever - Luna’s Penthouse. I have a few of their other albums and I think they’re fantastic, but Penthouse might be the best one.

A few other really great albums I’ve bought in the last month: Galaxie 500’s On Fire, Talulah Gosh’s Backwash, The Delgados’ Universal Audio, Barbara Manning’s Under One Roof, The Television Personalities’ They Could Have Been Bigger Than The Beatles.

Not new to me, but I’ve also been listening to a disproportionate amount of Pulp and Franz Ferdinand recently.
