Favorite Pearl Jam song?

Go ahead and tell me your favorite Pearl Jam song, and if you want, why it is your favorite. There are a ton of choices, and I will try to keep a running total if we get enough responses.

After much thought, I had to choose “Release”. It was one of the first songs I heard on the TEN album, and as my good friend says: “It’s just one of those songs that makes you think about shit.”

Please, one song only no matter how much you love them all!

Just ONE? Well, I guess today I’ll go with

Rearview Mirror from Vs.

Evenflow, definitely.

Hail, Hail.

That is all.

As much as I would like to say a lesser known song I really have to go with “Jeremy”. Though “Brain of J” is up there as well…

I shall second “Brain of J.”, as well as the track that immediately follows; the name of which seems to escape me. I have constantly heard critique about this and Yield as a whole, and generally I would agree. But, to me, there is a certain rawness and off-the-cuff vibe that fits.

I like the way they count it in too – “*onetwothreefouronetwothreefour–*DUHDUHDUHdu~~~ (sorry) – onetwothreefouronetwothreefour --”…

“I Got Id”. Especially Neil Young’s guitar. And I’m not particularly a Neil Young fan.

Tough choice, but I’m going with “Daughter.” The intro, with just the acoustic guitar and Vedder singing, leading into a sonic wave of rythmn and percussion. Then Vedder voice just keeps rolling, singing the saddest, most heartbreaking lyrics in that tremulous, barely-contained way of his. It’s just great.

If Temple of the Dog songs count, then “Hunger Strike” is my favorite out of everything both Pearl Jam and Soundgarden ever produced.

The track you’re looking for that follows 'Brain of J" is “Faithful”, another great song.

After anothe glance at my Winamp list I’ve compiled some more of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.

  • “Do the evolution”
  • “Yellow ledbetter”
  • “Daughter”
  • “Go”

Ah, sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Why Go

I’ll go with “Black.” So simple, yet so hauntingly beautiful.

“Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town”

For the line: “I changed by not changing at all.”

Even Flow

“Long Road”

Although “State of Love and Trust” and “Strangest Tribe” are up there too.

I Got Id - love that song, I wish I could find it on a CD.

Intaglio: scour second hand stores for Merkinball - it accompanied Neil Young’s Mirrorball release and featured I Got ID and something else… I think Leaving Here. Actually, ask at yr local record store: it may still be in print.

I think I’ll name Immortality (from Vitalogy) as my favourite, especially after seeing them play it live in Sydney. But State of Love and Trust, I Got ID and Black are really good, too.

Choosing just one is really difficult… I’ve got it down to two , but I really can’t decide between ‘Given to fly’ and ‘Rearviewmirror’.

I think I make that choice and go with ‘Given to Fly’. Just so powerful. Goes from quiet to overwhelming and back. With a good message as well.

they only ever did 2 good songs IMHO
alive
and rear view mirror

ill go with rearview

which ill imagine will upset some

“State of Love and Trust”

Definitely.
