Favorite Pearl Jam song?

“Off He Goes” on No Code

Wonderfully restrained vocals (for Vedder anyway), and a real human quality to it.

“Long Road”

It IS hard just to pick one, innit?

I’ll second “Off He Goes”.

Beautiful song of friendship (with a friend who has some problems).

Pearl Jam does a gorgeous cover of Victoria Williams’s “Crazy Mary” (on the Sweet Relief CD. The only reason I didn’t pick that one is that it’s not a Pearl Jam original.

(It really is hard to pick just one.)

Pearl Jam’s acoustic songs are first-rate. I put together a CD-R of their acoustic stuff to play in my car, and passengers are always commenting on it-- awestruck at the quality.

Update:

  1. Rearview Mirror-3
  2. I got Id, and Given to Fly, Off He Goes, Evenflow–2

Various others with one vote each.

Geez, only one song? Ok, if you insist.

Yellow Ledbetter. There’s just something about it. I was at the concert in St. Paul last week, and their live rendition of it about blew my mind. I’ve heard that Eddie never performs the same lyrics to this song twice, can anyone confirm/deny this for me?

But I could nominate almost anything from their first two albums (Ten and Vs.)

Hmmm … now I must make sure that I have my PJ cds in the car for the road trip this weekend.
rummage, rummage Shithole of a room

MerkinBall has I Got Id/Long Road. Leaving Here is on Home Alive: The Art of Self-Defense.

Right now my favorite song is Daughter with the It’s Ok tag from the second Jones Beach bootleg. Before that it was Thumbing My Way. Sometimes Eddie Vedder perfectly reflects my own feelings: “There’s no wrong or right but I’m sure there’s good and bad.”

Given to Fly is beautiful, too. “And he still gives his love he just gives it away.”

I love this band. I’m glad there are some fans here:)

RVM is definately my fav rock out song. But Indifference and Release are a tie for the softer side. Not that I don’t love some of the later stuff too, though I consider Vitaology and No Code to be the height of their greatness.

Better Man.

Definitely “Black”.

I’ll third “Black.”

Ummm, let’s see. I really like “Down” right now,so that would be my current favorite. Anything from Vitalogy (except for the last song) is great, particually “Immortality.” Like gex gex said, the song is amazing live.

I’ll second the cover of “Crazy Mary.” It’s gorgeous.

For straight-up Pearl Jam, I’d have to go with “Black.”

Breathe

That should be Breath and I second it although In Hiding is a close, close second.

I only have Yield, don’t know any others. I should realy get some more, I looooove Yield, and apparently it’s nowhere near there best. (Of course, it’s all subjective.)

My fave from Yield would have to be “No Way”.

It is so cool. I love the start music.

And this bit:

“I… just…want…someone to be there for…me”.

I also like Brain of J.

And wishlist.

And… hell, all of them!

Black!

Corduroy!

Another vote for “Off He Goes”.

I like Pearl Jam so much that I’m torn on this one! So I’ll list my favorites for each album:

Ten: Jeremy & Release

Vs. : Daughter, Glorified G, & Rearviewmirror (glorified g sounds so happy and upbeat even though lyrically you wouldnt think it is. It just always makes me feel happy. Rearviewmirror always to me has sounded like the song that would play during the end credits of a movie. I love the drums at the end.)

Vitalogy: Spin the Black Circle, Last Exit, Better Man, Immortality, Satan’s Bed, & Bugs because it’s just a weird song. Vitalogy is by far my favorite Pear Jam album.

No Code: Red Mosquito, Habit, Hail Hail, and Mankind. (Mankind is a great song in my opinion because I believe it’s the only one Stone Gossard sings so it’s sort of unique.)

Yield: Brain of J, All Those Yesterdays, Push Me Pull Me (again, because its so weird.)

Binaural: Insignificance, Grievance, Nothing as it Seems, Of the Girl, Sleight of Hand…I like this album a lot too.

I don’t yet own Riot Act.

As for non-albums, I also really like I Got Id, Yellow Ledbetter, Dirty Frank, and State of Love and Trust.
