Whoops, I called them Pear Jam. Sorry about that…
Man… I was all set to say Corduroy, then I saw someone mention Yellow Ledbetter. Definately YL. The soulful, garbled lyrics, the Hendrix-esque guitar finale… great song.
(Honorable mention: Elderly woman, Jeremy, Daughter, Betterman, Present Tense, Light Years, Once, State of Love & Trust, Wishlist…)
(I’m seeing them at PNC arts center on 3 weeks! woohoo!!)
Apos
I am in total agreement. I get endless flack from friends and aquaintances when I tell them I don’t think the band peeked with Ten and Vs.
I think Vitalogy is great and No Code might have been their peak.
I love the line “There are bugs in the way I feel, about you.” That’s what makes what would otherwise be a total nonsense throwaway song.
Crazy Mary is great and intensely spiritual. Nothingman is sweet, though well known
Other oft forgotten gems: In My Tree, Oceans, Leash, Go, Wash, Tremor Christ, Present Tense
Vedder does some nice work on “Face of Love” too, as well as that song he sings with Young on Mirrorball. And his cover of “Trouble” ain’t bad, though still not as good as the original.
I’m not that crazy about their latest: too few classic hooks, and the lyrics don’t feel up to snuff. But “I am Mine” and “All or None” are definately worthy.
Hrm…I would have to say Jeremy. Best PJ song and by far the best music video ever made.
I also like the song Why Go Home? In fact, I think the entire album “Ten” was good.
All these songs mentioned but no-one likes Wishlist? How can’t you not nominate a song that starts with “I wish I was a neutron bomb”? Granted, I never was a PJ fan, but this song I like.
Wishlist - Worst. Pearl Jam song. Ever.
Like the line in Office Space, I celebrate their entire collection. But probably their two big singles, Jeremy & daughter, plus ‘better man’ and ‘fucked up’, their awsome cover of Neil Young’s son.
I love it when Mike tags “Little Wing” onto the end of it live. A perfect way to end a show.
“Peace and Love”
Have you heard “Undone,” the B-side to “I Am Mine”? It’s probably the best song to come out of those sessions.
Nope, I’ll definately try to track it down though.
I dislike “Daughter” with a passion… maybe I just dont understand WHAT he is trying to say.
Black and Jeremy are hands down my favorites.
In second place would be Even Flow, Elderly Woman, Yield, and the one about the girl in the santitarium from Ten whose title was slipped my over tired brain…
Update:
Black–6
Rearview Mirror, Evenflow, Off He Goes, Jeremy, I got Id–3
Yellow Ledbetter–2
Many others with one.
Thanks for giving your opinions. I love all the above, and I think I am going to make a C.D. with all of these and the others together!
Black
“Last Kiss”.
No, I kid.
Today I’d have to say…eh…probably “Immortality”. “Yellow Ledbetter”, “Black”, “Corduroy”, and “Thumbing My Way” are also strong contenders at the moment. But I am such a huge PJ fan that I can’t make a solid decision and most of their songs have a shot at being my current favorite someday.
