I’ve had fruit dip that’s matching amounts of cream cheese and marshmallow fluff, and cinnamon. Oh, my god, is it heaven to dip apple or pear into. I will be trying your vanilla version.
My girlfriend makes a simple fruit dip with low-fat sour cream and regular granulated sugar stirred in. It’s very sweet without being too sweet, and goes perfectly with the fresh strawberries we’ve been getting lately.
Anyway, I’ll usually make a big pan of lasagna or baked ziti, but I’m also very partial to seven-layer dip.
A lot of times, I make Texas Caesar Salad, which is romaine, red bell pepper, fresh corn cut off the cob, sun-dried tomatoes and croutons. For the dressing, take whatever kind of bottled Caesar dressing you like and whomp it in the food processor with a generous handful of cilantro, half (or more or less) a fresh jalapeno, and some lime juice.
We must be related! I like O’Briens for the extra bits of color from the peppers.
Well, some may call it broccoli casserole but when I make it, it’s “microwave broccoli quiche”. I put a layer of crushes Cheez-It type crackers on the bottom, steamed broccoli- sometimes with corn, egg & milk matter, cheese, more Cheez-Its on top. Cook till egg is firm beneath the surface.
I go to the deli and get something. A tray of meat and cheese. Shrimp. Potato salad. Whatever fits my mood and budget.
Brownies, because they bitch if I don’t bring them. My other stuff is good, they just apparently can’t live without brownies.
This is what I always HOPE somebody else will bring. Because I don’t have the recipe. And you can’t get baked ramen anymore
So I always make cheesecake.
I have that recipe, but it’s at home. I’ll try to remember to post it later.
I like to bring devilled eggs, but they’re a lot of work. I’ve sent gumbo to my husband’s work before. It’s a lot of work too, but we kept half for ourselves, so that justifies making a double batch.
I’m always bringing in leftover desserts to work - there’s only three of us, and we can’t finish a 13x9 cake or bread pudding before we get sick of it. The guys here appreciate it!
I love making desserts, but in a pinch if I have brownie mix at home I’ll add anything I can to it just to doctor it up.
Options include
-leftover candy (rollo’s, heath - chop/crush it)
-nuts
-chocolate chips (coat in a bit of flour so they don’t sink to the bottom
-marshmallows (at the end, otherwise they melt in the batter)
-can of cherry pie filling
Ditto on the fruit pizza, I make that stuff all the time!
Brownies? For a pot luck?
I was going to suggest a bong, but brownies work just as well
I forgot to include my jambalaya recipe. I always make it extra spicy with chollula brand hot sauce but otherwise I follow the recipe pretty closely.
Another one that my girlfriend makes is little cucumber sandwiches on coctail rye. Blend cream cheese and enough sour cream to make it workable (ie not so damned stiff) and mix in some Italian salad dressing packet to flavor it up. Smear mixture on a coctail rye, put a cuke slice on, sprinkle with a pinch of leftover Italian dressing powder (this is the key and what makes them super awesome) and top with another cockail rye. I can eat upwards of 15 of these suckers if I’m not careful…Not exactly potluck hearty, but an awesome thing to bring to any get together.
I think I’ve found a new favorite potluck recipe, curried chicken salad.
You take chunks of chicken, chopped celery, chopped apple, golden raisins, walnuts, and grapes. Mix some mayo, curry powder, a pinch of black pepper, and a little sugar, all to taste. Add dressing to stuff. Stir, chill, enjoy.
It’s much better the second day, so I usually make it the day before I need to take it somewhere. When I found the recipe, I read a bunch of reviews that said “this was so good, we ate it all and made another batch the second day!” Oh, it’s that good, huh?
Yeah, we ate it all and made another batch the next day, then proceeded to have it for lunch all week
I make rice krispie-style bars, except I use a bag of double-stuffed Oreos that I’ve bashed up into little pieces instead of the Rice Krispies. Always a hit, and usually gone in 10 minutes.
I can also recommend using Froot Loops and/or Fruity Pebbles instead.
I’ve never even heard of baked ramen, we just use the regular ol’ stuff. Just break it up by hand and don’t mix it in too soon, or else it’s gets all soggily bereft.
2 bags of broccoli slaw, 1 c sunflower seeds, 1 c toasted sliced almonds, sliced scallions if you enjoy those, bean sprouts if you like, toss together.
Mix a quarter cup sugar with a third cup apple cider (or red wine, or whatever you’ve got) vinegar until it’s nearly dissolved, add a half cup olive oil, a tablespoon of soy sauce and the seasoning packets from the 2 packages Ramen, shake or stir together well.
Bust up the ramen and combine everything, toss well to coat. For potluckage, do your ramen into a ziploc and toss it together a half hour or so before eating, the dressing won’t soggify the veggies so that can travel together.
I use either chicken or beef flavors of Ramen, but feel free to experiment!
Here’s my ramen cole slaw:
Oriental Cole Slaw
1 pkg of cole slaw
! cup sunflower seeds
1 cup toasted sliced almonds
1 bunch green onions, chopped
2 pkgs Beef Ramen Noodles
Dressing
2 seasoning packets from noodle pkgs
1 cup veg oil
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
½ cup sugar
Mix the cole slaw, green onions, sunflower seeds, and toasted almonds in a large bowl. Put both packs of ramen noodles in a large baggie. (Use the seasoning packets in the dressing.) Crush into smaller pieces with a hammer or something. Add the noodles to the salad. Mix well. Pour the dressing on top of the salad and mix well. Enjoy!
You’re invited!
Thanks! And thanks to above posters for recipes! But . . . a half cup of olive oil, a CUP of vegetable oil? And I’ve been eating like half the bowl of this stuff!
The reason **Queen Tonya ** hasn’t heard of baked ramen is that nobody makes it anymore. Campbell’s used to, and it was about 90% lower in fat and tasted just as good. But I think it had a shorter shelf life so it was discontinued. If anybody finds a source, please post!
Oh! I forgot the onion. Throw in some chopped sweet onion, too. And a pinch of salt to the dressing.
I’m sort of a disorganized cook
