Favorite R&B (modern) R&B songs.

R&B. It’s something I started listening to after getting into hip hop. It’s a genre with a lot of popularity but it doesn’t get a lot of discussion. But I know dopers are pretty smart and have a wide range of musical tastes.

I like

Aaliyah - Try Again, We Need A Resolution
Ginuwine - Pony
R. Kelly - Ignition, Kickin’ It With your Girlfriend, Touched A Dream
Brandy - What About Us, Talk About Our Love
Kelis - Caught Out There, Milkshake
John Legend - Ordinary People, Used to Love U

and a whole lot of other stuff like Erykah Badu and Jill Scott.

Tell me, then, what are your favorite R&B songs?

And yeah, I know, about '50s R&B. If you want to complain that modern singers aren’t really rhythm and blues, go do it in your own thread. I’m just looking for people to tell me what they love.

I dislike most of the insipid poppy Rn’B-lite stuff, and I’m not big on the macho-macho hip hop stuff either, but I like things I can dance to.

Blackstreet- No Diggity
Rhianna- Pon de Replay (great video)
50 Cent- In da Club
Kanye West
Missy Elliot
India Arie (esp. Brown Skin), Angie Stone, Corinne Bailey Rae and Lauryn Hill’s first album (esp. Zion) would be the music I’m more likely to listen to.
