Favorite restaurant foods - Buffalo Mac and Cheese

Oh, good gawd. Ever since I discovered this delectable dish I have been hooked on it. A combination of North America’s favorite - mac and cheese, and the US’s own Buffalo wings.

The best version I have tried was at Quaker Steak and Lube. Nice rotini macaroni, several cheeses in the sauce, broiler browned and then topped with breaded and grilled chicken pieces with your choice of sauce, diced celery and blue cheese crumbles. Oh, man!

But then they changed it. They went to a heavier spiral noodle and played with the sauce recipe. It was not as good. Then they apparently dropped it altogether and replaced the crispy chicken with shredded beef. It’s a fine dish, not it ain’t Buffalo mac and cheese. I haven’t been back it see what they have since last year.

Buffalo Wild Wings has the best today that I have found. A very creamy sauce and decent chicken pieces. I ask them to add diced celery and it is not bad. Except the expert chef at the one I go to thinks “diced” means “chop a stalk of celery into 6 pieces”. What the heck, it might even be better with the larger pieces.

There’s a place called Scion in the DC area that has it. It’s not bad. Not bad at all.

If you’d said “BBQ Mac & Cheese” I’d be totally on board. But I generally dislike to loathe wing sauce, so I always look for an alternative sauce.

You can pick the sauce you want. My grandson agrees with you, BBQ is the best. The cheese cuts the heat of the hot sauce, though.

I love wing sauce, but so far, the only thing I really like it on is actual chicken wings or possibly to dip fried chicken pieces in. I don’t even like it on Buffalo chicken sandwiches. It’s gotta be fried chicken of some sort on its own. But good god is it fucking good in that role.

A restaurant out here in north county San Diego has a Flamin’ Hot Cheetos mac’n’cheese that is incredibly tasty. It’s perfectly gooey without being too heavy and the Cheeto cuts through the richness in just the right way.

That sounds quite good. I’ll often get Mac 'n cheese appetizer that is often enough for a meal.

Funny, one place I go to it’s excellent. Not a lot but just great. Another place I would call good. And you can get 4-5 meals out of a single order (it’s kinda nutso)
