Favorite song from musician who died in 2016

It has to be Prince, and it is really, REALLY hard to identify which song of his is my absolute favorite. As has been said about Bowie and others on the list, it could change depending on the day.

But as today happens to be today, I am inclined to choose “Let’s Go Crazy.” As much as I love so much of Prince’s catalog, I’m not sure there are any others that make me so consistently happy whenever they’re playing.

Lemmy died December 28, 2015.

Not from Glenn Frey alone, but “What Do I Do With My Heart?” by Eagles (he always insisted the band’s name didn’t have the article) on which Frey took the lead vocal.

Close enough for rock ‘n’ roll.

Tough call as I’m a big fan of Prince, Bowie, Cohen, and Haggard but I have to go with
“Randall Knife” by Guy Clark. That song gets me every time I hear it.

So many. Too many.

How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore by Prince and Heroes by David Bowie.

“Fame” by David Bowie. Legendary song.

When you get to be my age the years all run together.

Bowie - Ashes to Ashes

One of my earliest and most powerful musical memories, the video used to freak me out (and still does, to an extent). A Personal Top 10 Song.

It had to be a Bowie song, really and that one’s the one.

But I must also mention Cohen’s Famous Blue Raincoat as well as Prince’s When Doves Cry.

It’s absolutely impossible for me to pick, but I’m happy to go with this. I’m biased, because piano is my first instrument, and that piano is just wild and fantastic.

Too many Bowie songs to choose from, but I’ve recently re-discovered this live version of Moonage Daydream from the Ziggy Stardust Motion Picture.

Transcendent.

David Bowie - Cat People. The 12" extended version is nine types of awesome!

I wasn’t really such a fan of L Cohen’s “Democracy” until he fucking died right before Election Day.
It’s now kind of a dirge to me, but I still listen to it when I need some inspiration:

Bowie - Sweet Thing /Candidate /Sweet Thing

Barely ninja’d! This song (cycle?) is just…yeah.

but…but…sigh

Leon Russell, Me and Baby Jane. One of the most chilling antidrug songs.

Since Reality Chuck dropped Bowie’s “Suffragette City”, I will pick it up.

Rebel, rebel, he sang. And I was.

Hmm. Lots of great songs to choose from, by all the talented people we lost last year, but if I can only pick one, I think I’ll go with “A Different Corner” by George Michael: George Michael - A Different Corner (Official Video) - YouTube
