Favorite Surnames

At first I thought this was MPSIMS material, but since it’s an opinion type thing I’ll put it in here.

What last names have you come across or know of that you wish you had? Of course, it’s not really a consequential thing, but once in a while one comes up that really rocks. Most recently, I met a Blue. There’s no name that’s not improved by having Blue following it. John Blue, Rose Blue, Matthew Blue, Jack Blue, Melody Blue . . . Other color names like White also work beautifully.

I once met a woman whose last name was Valentine. Some people in this world are truly blessed. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, if you could pick, what would you choose?

A couple years ago there was a military guy giving interviews for something or other.
I can’t remember his rank, or even the service he was in, but his last name was “Slaughtermaster”

That is beyond awesome.

One of my ancestors was John Blackford Blue of Indiana, descended from the Blue family of New Jersey.

My last name is a colour, though not Blue, unfortunately, which is my favourite colour.

I like the French last name “Sanschagrin”- “without grief.” I’ve also come across the French name “Painchaud” - warm bread.

I’ve come across these cool names in the last month and a half, in sports.

Bryan Anger, NFL
Joe Panik, MLB
Whitney Mercilus, NFL

I would LOVE to be “Jessica Mercilus!!!”

Hazen Argue was a member of the Saskatchewan provincial legislature, laer elected to the Canadian Parliament…

I had a roommate in college whose last name was Stonebreaker.

Great surname!

One of the other pilots at my employer has the last name “Pilot”. Really.

In the military I knew officers with the last names Major and Minor.

There’s a local wildlife biologist named David Bird, and I used to go to an optometrist named Dr. Spector.

I would have liked to use one of my mother’s family names. Morse, Bell, Rand. Sadly, no relation to the big companies. Mom married an Irish name modern Americans laugh at. Her MIL’s maiden German name would have Jackmanii chuckling, or snerking.

I really like French surnames. These are my favs from just B & C
Beauchene
Beaumont
Bellrose
Blaise
Bonhomme
Charbonneau
Chevalier
Courtemanche
My “girls night out name” was Chantel Dubois

Same or similar: SSgt Max Fightmaster (I think he since got promoted). Or Punch Rockgroin.

I like “ffolkes.” Yes, always lowercase. And other weird British names like Featheringstonehaugh or St. John.

I rather favor Cholmondeley (pronounced Chumley), or Taliaferro (pronounced Tolliver).

A young fellow called Cholmondeley Colquhoun,
Once kept as a pet a babolquhoun,
His mother said, “Cholmondeley,
Do you think it quite colmondeley,
To feed your babolquhoun with a spolquhoun?”

I had a “girls night out” name, too. Maybe you should start a thread.

There’s an Israeli television personality whose name is pronounced “Guy Penis”.

By far the most common surname in the Yucatec Maya language is “Pech,” which means “flea.” So, the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers has about a hundred thousand indigenous Mexican “namesakes.”

I knew a girl called Lucy Rainbow. I said it was an unusual surname, but she said there were lots of Rainbows in the UK.

I thought all the rainbows were in Ireland:D

Gaylord

You gotta admit Wolf Biltzer is a pretty cool name.
