Favorite Terry Pratchett Character?

I am relatively new to The Books but I am always glad when DEATH turns up in one of them.

My Board name is not chosen for favouritism - I just wanted something other than Lobley, and at the time Lobsang seemed most appropriate.

I like Sweeper too. Or Lu Tze (is that the correct spelling)

The Dean.
–Born to Rune.

I am now in the middle of NIGHT WATCH, just published a weekor so ago. It’s Vimes and time-travel, and I’ll say no more.

A quote from NIGHT WATCH: “When I die, I’m going to instruct them to put a bell on my tombstone, just so’s I can have the pleasure of not getting up when people ring.”

I think my favorite character is Granny Weatherwax, though.

Hmmm.

I like Vetinari of course, cause I love Machiavillians.
Angua is cool, and Ponder Stibbons strikes a chord in geeks everywhere.

The librarian needs an assistant…perhaps a nice…Tamarin?
[sub]No, put that down, I was only kidding, Arrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!![/sub]

I’m actually not a big fan of DEATH… I’m not sure why, my roomate loves him. But Vetinari and Vimes… every book with them is a page turner.

Death, followed closely by Susan. She has a clarity of thinking that I admire.

ook.

Ooook.

Eeeeek.

I’m too lazy to look up the exact quotes at the moment, but there’s one, I think from Reaper Man, which says something along the lines of, “The librarian used a surprisingly economical number of hand gestures to indicate that, while what he knew about guerrilla warfare could not be written on the back of a matchbook, what he knew about orangutan warfare could be expressed quite effectively on the face of, for example, The Dean…”

And for some reason the quiet “…oook” noise that he makes after thwapping into a wall in Moving Pictures always has me in utter stitches when I think about it.

…and the way he “nibbles thoughtfully” on the edges of things. I would nibble thoughtfully more often if I wasn’t afraid it would get me locked up. (as a technique it seems to work well for my 9 month old daughter…)

Pterryfan - 'vark

In Lords and Ladies, I loved the descriptions of the Witchcraft lessons.

It’s hard to think of a favorite character, but Nanny Ogg has to be well up there, especially when teamed with Granny Weatherwax.

Oh, and Sam Vimes of course. “Fabricatem Diem, Punc”.

  1. Granny Weatherwax.
  2. Rincewind.
  3. Detritus. Dat troll - he so fick!

Angua all the way.

Death
Granny Weatherwax
The Librarian

Susan Sto Helit, of course. She kicks more ass than anyone. Ever.

And I’m very fond of the Librarian, and the Igors (or Igorth, I thuppothe)

I’m all about Vetinari. For second place, I’d say Granny Weatherwax and DEATH (though I’m not nearly as fond of Susan for some reason). Third place, Cohen the Barbarian and Rincewind.

It’s so hard to choose!

“I know she’s in there,” said Verence, holding his crown in his hands in the famous Ai-Senor-Mexican-Bandits-Have-Raided-Our-Village position.
For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, © run away from, and (d) rocks.
More quotes…

You Bastard - the worlds greatest mathmatician…

To lazy to actually go look, but in Pyramids IIRC, was The Smartest Camel in the Universe, which took my fancy (and most of my cash, but that’s another story.)

Hometownboy, Daylon mentioned that camel’s name in the post above yours.

Yez, indeed, and I blame bad memory (and the fact I was too busy typing my own post to pay proper attention). Thanks, jayjay and my apologies to Daylon

hmmm… well, my favourite character would have to be Granny Weatherwax, but Ridcully comes a close second (in fact any scenes with the faculty in full argument are excellent)

Nijel the destroyer, son of <someone> the Greengrocer wins the prize for best name.

Librarian gets all the best lines (ook!)

Is it time to start a pratchett film cast thread… oh go on…
