Ok, I’m a dork… that being said, more specifically I’m a linux dork, that is forced to use windows everynow and again (it’s the only bad part about being in systems admin)
so anyhow… he’s a very small subset of my favorite windows features
no security = fun reading… kornakova.jpg.vbs… I laughed for a good minute or too
me: "who could be that stupid… oh wait, windows ships with “don’t display known extensions” checked, so it looks like kornakova.jpg, doh… snicker
Outlook (express) = shoulda been called petri dish… any virus can propogate there… I had a cold last week, I think it was the e-mail I got from a sickly friend…
mine sweaper… no seriously, it’s a fun game
no debugging problems… “what, it’s acting all fuct up?.. ok reboot it… still being all fuct up?.. ok, grab your files, reinstall… poof 30 minute fixit”
I could go on… but I want to see what other dopers think about windows etc…
I’m guessing we have lots of windows users here… no one joining the discussion…
well shit, I have more…
when I put my pointer between the .com/ and what comes after the / and click, don’t highlight the whole address, just put the cursor where I want it so I can change the subdirectories… (I have lots more, and that’s a fairly worthless one)
honestly I’m not trying to start a flame war… I’m just curious what misc stuff that windows/ms does that annoys other people so I know I’m not alone… (and don’t say go to slashdot… I can’t just start a thread there, though I am an avid lurker of /.)
It doesn’t really annoy me more than any other OS. They all have their own quirks and flaws. In answer to the OP, I will say that the latest incarnation of the Windows Media Player requires me to go into the registry to get rid of the recent history of played files. Not that I’d ever view anything to be ashamed of…
I’m a Macintosh person. It’s hard to know where to begin.
For the most part I manage to avoid immersion in the MicrosoftOS environment, and as long as I don’t have to use it, I’ll happily defend the right of PC users to use Windows and to take pleasure in it
(…not that the first of those two is exactly under attack…)
Now and then I do have to use Windows.
Hey, you’ve heard the oft-repeated insinuation that Microsoft stole the interface from the Mac?
…well, every time I have to use Windows, I find myself wishing that it were true…
