Favourite Christianity-related songs

Christmas songs - “O Holy Night”

I think this song from Cartman, “Jesus Baby”, is genius:

Joni Eareckson Tada - “Spirit Wings”

It was featured in a Christian ad that was on TV when I was a child. When I found it on Youtube I listened to it a lot and it made me filled with tears due to the emotional connection.

Stryper - “Always There For You”

Also was on a Christian ad in my youth. Pretty catchy.

Genesis - “Jesus He Knows Me”

Catchy, entertaining music video

Amy Grant has a lot of songs I like…
“In A Little While” (I especially like the ending)

“Don’t Run Away”

“I Love A Lonely Day”

BTW I was a young-earth creationist in high school then I became an atheist but I still have some interest in Christianity-related things.

I’m Presbyterian and collect hymnals. My tastes are probably not yours.

“My Song Is Love Unknown”

“Immortal, Invisible”

“Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us”

“Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?”

He’s really hokey, but when I was growing up, my parents would play Don Francisco. Some of my favorites are

Gotta Tell Somebody

The Steeple Song

Too Small a Price

Gaudete - Steeleye Span version: Steeleye Span - 'Gaudete' (Live) - YouTube

Jerusalem, by ELP: Emerson Lake And Palmer - Jerusalem - YouTube

My faves. The videos are a bit goofy but the music is good:

Victory in Jesus by Selah

My Lighthouse by Rend Collective

Today is the day by Lincoln Brewster

One Thing remains - Passion

Black Sabbath - After Forever

I’m agnostic but pretty much anything from Mahalia Jackson makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Try “In The Upper Room” for starters or, well, anything really.

I was baptized Presbyterian ( ya have to pass a class for that ), and I made an A in communicant’s class in Catholic junior high, but insofar as I don’t see a supreme being being necessary to existence; I’m an atheist as an adult. My favorite songs that can be associated with Christianity are:

Blind Willie Johnson: The Soul of a Man - the unknown
Nobody’s Fault But Mine - you’re accountable to the unknown
Let Your Light Shine on Me - but the unknown might be especially gracious, possibly even heavenly. You never know.

And from the Reverend Robert Wilkins, by way of the Rolling Stones: Prodigal Son. I can speak from experience, you are better off forgiving those who have wronged you. Except in the most serious circumstances, forget what they get away with, and move on to making things better.

“Under the Spout Where the Glory Comes Out.” How can you NOT smile when you hear that?

Stand Up for Judas

Johnny Cash (and friends) - Daddy Sang Bass

The Del McCoury Band- “Get Down On Your Knees and Pray

I appreciate the timing and the dark, spacey harmonies. I think it sets a haunting stage for the subject matter’s presentation.

oops… forgot to quote:

Black Sabbath - After Forever

[/QUOTE]

Fan-fuckin’-tastic !

This is the classic: One Toke Over the Line, on the Lawrence Welk Show.

Spirit in the Sky, by Norman Greenbaum, of course, if only for that wonderfully fuzzed out guitar intro.

5 minutes too late, damn it!

Abraham by Sufjan Stevens has been one I’ve always liked.

No love for the the Doobs’ “Jesus is Just Alright With Me”?

I like both Jars of Clay and *Lifehouse *and appreciate their music, which is Christian-based, but not so overt that you can’t listen to it seamlessly with your other rock and popular music.

This thread gives me an excuse to post this link again.

“Sinnerman” - Nina Simone

Hard On For Jesus by The Dandy Warhols.

Lifeboat by Steve Taylor was one of my favs.
