Favourite IPad games - suggestions

I’ve a few long haul trips coming up and I wanted to see if my fellow Dopers could recommend some good games for the iPad.

Not big into games like Angry Birds but prefer more RPGS/Adventure type of games.

Anything and everything appreciated!

Have you tried Machinarium? It reminds me of the old school adventure games like King’s Quest. The graphics are gorgeous. The story is pretty simple but engaging enough. It takes place in a world of robots and has a kind of steampunk feel to it. Like the KQ games, it consists of puzzles you have to solve in order to go forward. Like you need an umbrella, but the lady robot that has an umbrella won’t give it to you until you find her lost dog. Anyway, I really loved playing it.

Have not tried it but now on the list. I have played very few iPad games. Thank you for the suggestion.

I don’t think you can go wrong withWarhammer Quest. It’s pretty new and it’s a terrific and faithful adaptation of the board game from Games Workshop. It’s a fantasy turn based RPG from the Warhammer world where the player takes his party of heroes into a series of dungeon crawls looking for loot. Lots of fun and really polished. It’s a paid app, but it’s worth every penny in my mind.

I just bought several games for a series of summer trips, so I have some suggestions.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - A faithful remake of the classic Bioware game. Excellent and holds up nicely.

Star Command: Blow up space aliens. Shoot them with lasers when they board your ship. I had a good time, though it’s fairly short.

Puzzle Quest 2: A gem matching puzzle game with an RPG element.

Eclipse: An iOS version of the board game by the same name.

x-Com Enemy Unknown was released recently, it’s pricey for an IOS game but it’s an excellent copy of the PC game. Squad-based tactics mixed with base-building and economic strategy. Be careful, it can prone to crashed on older hardware.

I concur with Johnny Bravo’s suggestion of Puzzle Quest 2 (though the first game was better, and it’s a shame that it’s been removed from the App Store). In a similar vein, you NEED Dungeon Raid.

Eclipse is a little heavy unless you’re already familiar with board gaming, but there are a ton of great board game representations. Ascension is tremendous, and the IOS version of Carcassonne is basically flawless. Agricola is a deeper game but they did a great job.

Infinity Blade is a classic, and there are a million clones of that style of game.

Ascenion is a fantastic deck-building card game. Very simple to learn, plays quick, and offers a ton of replay value.

Triple Town is a freemium matching game. Well worth playing, even without spending additional cash on it.

Avadon is a great, old-school turn-based RPG. Feels a lot like a classic Ultima game.

Wow, that sentence in my earlier post is terrible.

Anyway, I also wanted to add Starbase Orion, which is a really great old-school turn-based 4X game (basically Master of Orion), and Bastion, which is a super-fun action/adventure game, though I can’t vouch for the touch controls (I played it on PC). If you get Bastion, try to only play it at times you can listen, because the narrator is one of the best parts.

I’d recommend both Kingdom Rush and Kingdom Rush Frontier. Both are tower defense games with crisp graphics and lots of content. I also vote for Bastion!

I am currently addicted to Candy Crush and Real Racing 3 - neither is the type of game you specified, but you also said “anything and everything”. A lot of fun can be had for free with both of those.

You say adventure, which to me means point and click. Have you tried the Ace Attorney series? I just adore it, even if the logic can get rather crazy.

I’ve been playing this since I saw this recommendation. It’s fun, if a touch repetitive

I’ve held off buying this on the grounds that I sunk months of my life into the Xbox version, but I’m curious to see how it works. I expect I’ll crack soon enough

The KR games are great but for tower defense games, IMO, you can’t beat Bloons. Bloons 5 has been rocking my iPad for almost 18 months now.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. Loving Avadon! Good game with a great plot line. Thanks again for all of the suggestions.
