Favre, Brady and the Media

I was just curious as to how many folks hate Favre and/or Brady, or like them and simply despise the media fawing. Or do you hate the media fawning because you think the players invite that in inapporpirate self-aggrandizing ways?

Favre is and has been the quarterback I’ve wanted for my team (the Lions) for years. Brady is the next coming of Joe Montana. He’s at least headed along a similar career path.

They both have done a very good job of quarterbacking. That is more than just throwing. I kinda thought Favre was a bit over rated but he is having a good year. Of course a lack of injuries has helped too.

I’m a Packers fan so I love Favre.

I also have serious respect for Tom Brady and all he’s accomplished. I don’t hate athletes based on the media’s infatuation with them.

I hate athletes who play dirty.

Do you think Brett Favre’s lack of injuries, coupled with his marked improvement this year might bring questions regarding possible use of HGH? I’m asking because I have heard from sports writers how everyone “should have known” that Roger Clemens longevity and late career feats were fueled by HGH.

I don’t love either play and don’t hate them either. The media treatment can get very annoying because even aside from my dislike of the Patriots, I just don’t care about Tom Brady’s lovelife or how Brett Favre is still old.

I’m not a Brady fan because I think the media over hype him. Don’t get me wrong I think he is a good quarter back and one of the top 5 quarterback playing but he’s not the second coming of Montana. I don’t hate him, I actually think he’s a nice guy and if he were playing for a different team, I would probably cheer for him.

It’s not mandatory, you know…

OK maybe it is. I’ll tell you, my view of Favre has really changed this year. I would have never put him in the top 10 of all quarterbacks. He’s a great football player, but, until this year, I never saw him as a great quarterback. He’s always been, even while winning his MVP’s, too loose with the ball and not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

But this year, he’s really shown me something. He’s playing better than I’ve seen, and, although he’s had better statistical years, I think he’s playing a ton smarter than I’ve ever seen him play. For once, he’s really really impressed me this year.

As to Brady, I like him as a football player. I hate his team, I hate his coach, I’m not impressed with him as a person (although he’s reportedly good on charitable giving). But he’s a heck of a quarterback.

Of course no one ever really knows (I’m waiting for someone to admit, wait for the media condemnation, then anounce that they were just kidding and were clean all along) but Brett Farve was one of the very few stars to self report substance abuse.

Favre was at his best (until this year) all hopped up on pig tranquilizers and alcohol.

His teams lack of injuries is what I was referring to. The Pack has been very healthy this year.

Not so much at running back. The rest of the team has been pretty clear of any major injuries, though.

Come on, dad. Get with the program.

Theyr’e both great QB’s and seem like decent people, its not their fault the media kisses their asses- I like them both.

That’s how I feel. Great QBs/fellows, but the media slobbering over them constantly it wearing thin.

It’s kind of like when a song becomes a hit and gets overplayed. It may be a great song, but I’m tired of hearing it.

I do wonder, if we see a GB/NE superbowl, how the announcers will be able to talk with a double helping of man meat in their mouths.
