FBI says September 22 is a date of interest.

I just read on yahoo news that they’ve got evidence that the attack on 9/11 might only be the first in a series and that 9/22, a Saturday, may be a day of interest. Sounds scary.

If you were to put yourself in the mind of a terrorist, what would you attack?

I just heard this (9/22 concern) on the news on my ride home.
I was going to submit a long reply, but I just am not into this kind of speculation. My only guess is that if something had been planned for 9/22, it would almost certainly not take the form of the 9/11 attacks.
The report I heard indicated that it was materials found in the belongings and homes of the dead hijackers that made the authorities believe this. Hopefully, the authorities know more than they are saying at this time, and increased vigilance will prevent anything from happening. If we are lucky, some of the hijackers co-conspirators may screw up and reveal themselves at that time.

I hadn’t heard about it…but I’m with you…THEY know loads more than We do.

I hope.

K "and I know Nufffink! "

I wanted to pick the Dopers’ minds so that I’d know what I’d want to avoid on 9/22. Here are my guesses.

Since 9/22 is a Saturday, it’s not going to be downtown which should be deserted. One guess would be ballparks where a lot of people are going to gather. What games go on on Saturday? College football and some baseball?

Another thing might be nuclear plants? I’m assuming most shifts there are M-F so Saturday might be deserted and therefore easier to attack?

Disneyland?

Goddamnit. 9/22 is my birthday. They better not do anything or I’ll ::shaking fist::…

Seriously…I’m crapping my drawers with every new bit of info we get about this. I worry that people are too eager to get back to normalcy, and will be not be as vigilant as they should.

And MY birthday, as well. I hate this. Virgo’s are logical and analytical, not violent psychopathic murderers. That’s under some other sign, like, oh, say, Sagittarius. Yeah. It’s all their fault for being jealous of us.

It’s also Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday.

Well, personally, you couldn’t pay me enough money to work at a major dam, at the moment.

Hey, aren’t these terrorists supposed to be all holy and stuff anyway? Shouldn’t Sunday be a day of rest?

Authorities found a prepaid ticket on one of the suspects arrested in Texas for a flight originating from San Antonio that I believe may have been dated for the 22nd. I don’t know where it was headed but a hijacking to NASA might have been a consideration. The flight has since been cancelled. I don’t have a cite for this, it’s just what I remember from the local Houston news last night.

I think too much is made out of numerical similarities but the 9/11 and 911 coincidence is interesting.

Friday is the holy day in Islam. Sunday is a Christian thing.

I’ll second Major Feelgud’s theory. If it’s a Saturday, the targets would probably be more tourist/family oriented. Probably still national landmarks though. I fell slimy just thinking about this.

Things that happened on 9/22:

  • Start of Iran/Iraq war in 1980.
  • Debby Boone’s birthday. Granted “You Light Up My Life” was a horrible song, but that’s no reason to kill people.

Hmmm, Texas…
Oil refineries?

Yeah, or if it’s a big enough plane think what they could do to our cattle industry.

I am told we really need to be scared on 9/33.

I’ll bet it wasn’t Julian that told you that.

Wendell, I noticed that too.

You can rest assured that we in the Shire are taking extra precautions. Damn Sharkey.
(The preceding post was made in an effort to disguise the fact that I’m a nervous wreck.)

HEY! I’m a Sagittarius!

Oh…wait…

um…

Nevermind.

9/22 1pm Eastern: the NASCAR Busch Series MBNA.com 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway.

More to the point, 9/11 is the anniversary of the Camp David Accords, which some hard-line Muslims view as a betrayal of the Palestinian cause.

911 is not a universal “emergency services” number by any means. I believe it’s mostly limited to the USA,and the organizers of the attacks are certainly not from the USA.

Coincidences do happen.

Here ya go: cite.
