Federal agent suspended for graffitiing suspect's house.

From the Detroit Free Press:

Rest of the article

What. The. Fuck. How out of your gourd do you have to be to realize that you - a US Secret Service agent - should not be writing shit like that in someone’s private home? What kind of moron are you? The guy is suspended without pay for the next six months, and his boss said he cried with “remorse” when informed of the decision. Yeah, right! He was crying over the reported $40k he isn’t going to bring home this year!

Imad Hamad, regional director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee says:

I don’t see how firing this guy’s stupid ass wouldn’t send that same message.

It’d send the exact same message, but I think they’re hoping that the agent will be smart enough to not do it again. He made it through agent training so presumably he’s not natively stupid, not that there’s any way to tell.

Amazing. Put me in the “fire” column. It is obvious that the man has a big problem with Islam as a faith in general. He can’t be trusted to do this sort of job in an evenhanded manner. When he gets back, will he still have his nice $80k/yr salary?

This guy got off very easy in my book. According to the article, he could have been hit with felony charges for this, and gets off with a suspension?

Personally, I’d like to see this guy fired simply because no one so thoroughly and utterly lacking in basic common sense has any business handling a firearm and/or being a position of authority.

WTF?

Someone should ask this guy how he would feel if someone scribbled “CHRISTIANITY IS EVIL” and “CHRIST IS A LOSER” or something over his walls?

He’d be pissed, I’ll bet.

That’s just sick.

Not to mention fucking childish. I mean, what next? Is he going to tp their houses?

Moron.

Yeah, this guy is a contender for “jerk of the month”. I hope they can his ass.

Hold on! Aren’t you making an unwarranted assumption. Who or where does it say the guy is a Christian? Lets make sure of our facts. He could be just an immature Islam hater stirring up shit.

And he scribbled on a calender not their walls. Big difference in my opinion. Lets get our facts correct shall we.

Well, the fact that he wrote “Christ is KING” might be a bit of a giveaway, grienspace.

And why is it different to write on an immovable object, as opposed to a movable one? A secret service agent writing hateful things on a suspect’s property. Come on.

In the original IMHO thread about this, I said he should be fired, and I still think so. And, as Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit.com said today, “If I were a criminal defense lawyer in a case involving the Secret Service, I’d ask if any of the agents involved in my case was the one who had done this. Every time. Because an agent who’d leave this sort of thing in a suspect’s home might plant evidence, too.” It’s especially bothersome because the person to whom this happened is a naturalized U.S. citizen who is suspected of check-kiting, for heaven’s sake.

I think the victim should file a civil lawsuit for violation of his civil rights. An official agent of the U.S. government, in the commission of his job duties, degrades this man’s religion in his own home? Sounds like a potential First Amendment case to me.

I agree, might be. But I’m not 100% convinced. Doesn’t seem like the kind of thing a Christian would do. More like a juvenile thug hating muslems and trying to hurt them.

If someone looking after my house while I was on vacation, phoned and told me that someone had used a black marker scribbling graffiti all over my walls I’d be really upset. I get home and find that the only thing the intruder did was scribble Christianity sucks and Muhamed rules on the calender, quite frankly I’d be relieved.

I agree the actions of the agent are reprehensible but lets not skew the perspective of the actual event.

I don’t think it needs to be, or can be, skewed. It doesn’t matter where he wrote down his hate speech - it matters that he did so whilst carrying out his duties as a US secret service officer. Whether or not he’s a “real” Christian is also kind of beside the point, if you ask me.

Perhaps it’s not ‘by the book’, but it’s by no means the most vile thing that’s been done in the name of Christianity. For example, Fred “hot dogs and bananas are the Devil’s appetizers” Phelps and his mass of moronic myrmidons regularly do far more repugnant shit than this in the name of their faith.

Rather than invoking the ‘No true Scotsman’ argument, I’d venture to guess it’s more likely he did it in the name of his idea of Christianity than simply having done it to be hurtful to Muslims or discredit Christians.

IMHO, of course.

apo, I’m going to assume you didn’t see Coldfire’s post.

To add to Coldfire’s point, I don’t think it matters one bit whether “Islam is evil” was:
-chiseled into the driveway
-written on the wall
-written on paper
-spoken by the agent during the raid

It is the attitude alone that I find unacceptable. Of course, putting the words in print makes it that much easier to know what the agent is thinking.

I think that it makes it worse that he defaced a devotional calendar. Put me down for “can his ass.”

Ok.

Put me down in the “can his ass” column as well as the “swift kick in the nuts for being a dickhead” section.

<tangent>

My first thought was “Dude, I never knew Linus [from Peanuts] had a last name!”

Good Lord @ me.

:wally

</tangent>

Can the dumbass. How fucking ignorant can you get?

And true, it isn’t the worst thing ever done in the name of religion. Don’t make it right though. (Not that I beleive anyone here was really meaning to say that, though.)

<hijack>Welcome to the boards, QueerGeekGirl, From here and the stepmother/journal thread, I think I like you already. But this is the Pit, so I also must tell you to fuck off. ;)</hijack>

Ignoring for one moment the “flavor” of outrage that has been commented on so much here I’m struck by just how inneffective this moron is as a law enforcement agent.
These are supposedly our best trained guys!

Yeah, yeah, sure…
He shouldn’t have done it…
Intolerant…
Foolish deed done in the name of religion, etc…
blah blah blah

As a citizen, besides being outraged by the nature of the act itself (and I am), I expect a million times better performance from our nations top law enforcement agency and it’s agents.

Fire the moron.
