Federal election: Final results.

Good work, Matt. As I commented in another thread, it’s thanks to dedicated, socially active people like you that people like me have a choice of candidates on the ballot.

Thank you for making an important, personal comittment of time and energy for our democracy.

Good show, Matt. It’s comforting to know that somewhere out there, dedicated, idealistic people are running for office, and not just the used-car salesmen we typically get.

Granted, I know nothing about Canadian politics, but…

Am I the only one who found this a little odd?

Canadians have a political party for pot smokers?

I know where I am taking my next vacations.

Damn, it took me a while to figure out that this post was Canadian. I knew i didnt see anything about pot on my ballot.

Yes, Canada has a political party for pot smokers. Of the third parties, they got the second-highest amount of votes after the Greens nationwide.

So, Matt, you know what you need to do now, right?

Take all the campaign literature the Liberal who won in Verdun-St.-Jenesaisqua and save it. Then every time he/she votes contrary to election pledges, drop a note to the paper, issue a press release, or whatever it takes to get it public. Keep your name and the NDP stance in the public eye, without being obnoxious about it.

Then when the next election comes around, run again. And use all that evidence to prove how little the incumbent means what he/she says.

Five years from now, you’re in Parliament. Ten years, in the Cabinet. (What ministry should Matt take? I left the low-level double entendre of Foreign Affairs quite alone, but I’ll bet someone can come up with a good one.)
