Okay, this phrase has apparently been growing in usage lately… but I’ve got no idea what it means. From context, I might guess “feeling froggy” to mean something like “feeling unusual,” but perhaps in a specific way.
I don’t think it means touching or stimulating frog-like creatures. And the only definition dictionaries seem to give for “froggy” run along the lines of “full of frogs”, and I don’t think people are feeling full of frogs (though maybe they are, I dunno).
Urbandictionary.com is always a good reference for up-to-date slang info. I’ve never heard this used before, but the first definition seems the most likely.
Back in good old violence prone, hostility-ridden Texas, when I was a teenager, it was usually a responce to a challenge: Challenger: “I’m gonna kick your butt.” Challengee: “Anytime you feel froggy, jump.” As in, jump in and the fight is on.
I thought it came from the old simile, “I’m feeling as fine as frog’s hair”, meaning something so exceedingly fine as to be imperceptible. If you shorten it, it became just “I’m feelin’ froggy tonight”.
Do you live in southwestern PA? There’s a country radio station here called Froggy that has “feelin’ froggy” as their catch phrase. I’ve never heard it in any other context.
I agree with these two posts. In the exciting world of biker bars, it has been an expression for years.
“Okay sumbitch, if you’re feelin’ froggy…JUMP!”
This is the only way I’ve heard it used. In fact, there’s a bar on Main Street in Daytona Beach called Froggy’s. It think it was inspired by the expression.
It was typically followed close behind by an “Attitude Adjustment”
