Fellow Law & Order fanatics - did you see the season premiere?

Apparently he is working on some commission involved in Holocaust reparations. At least that is what I got from the one passing comment meant to explain his departure. That is another thing I like about L&O when a character leaves they generally don’t make much fuss.

As for why Steven Hill left the show (oops, reality), he is 78 years old and felt that he was too old for a weekly TV series.

Except for the end (“in this house when the President stands, nobody sits”) the whole thing was pretty much cribbed from a ‘funny’ email that is bound to cross your inbox in the next 2 minutes.

I listen to Dr. Laura every once in a while and happened to be listening on the day that she read that email on the air. She found it hilarious and said that if she couldn’t laugh at herself who could she laugh at?

Of course this is probably because it was attacking the wrong issue. Dr. Laura doesn’t find homosexuality “abnormal” because of Leviticus, she thinks it is a biological abnormality. She doesn’t really care if you are gay, but she does think you can be “cured.” I’m not defending her, and I disagree with her.

** Trion ** of course you are remembering correctly. She was a janitor, at work when a gang banger who couldn’t read shot up the wrong apartment, killing her baby and crippling her older son.

Camryn (from the PRactice) appeared 3 times to my knowledge. Once, when she was in her very thin days (as a pro life advocate who constructed a bomb, in the one where Moriarty got to grill the main pro life advocate on the stand about “didn’t you kill that woman’s unborn baby with that bomb, too?”); the next two appearances when she was heavier - one she was a lackluster foster care mother of a girl (Wendy) who was “kidnapped” by teacher type (who had lost her own child years before). The next appearance, she played a defense attorney who’s client was deaf, and she signed to him.

there’s NO such thing as watching too much Law and Order.

I love Law and Order, but I do have to agree that this episode lacked the ‘oomph’ one expects in a season premiere.

obfusciatrist: “That is another thing I like about L&O when a character leaves they generally don’t make much fuss.”
Granted, they don’t generally make a huge fuss, but they usually do a better job of explaining. For example, previous detectives have gotten shot, or left for punching out a politician. Very straightforward. Adam’s departure was less so; though come to think of it, lawyer departure have been less ‘fussed over’ than the detectives.

Trion, wring: Glad I wasn’t the only one to notice Van Buren’s prior appearance.

And I totally agree with Falcon: “Yes. Yes I am.” Best darn line in the whole show.

neuroman - I think Angie Harmon is fine.

She’s good on the show, too.

In fact, one of the underlying things I like about L&O is its never ending stream of hot, smart assistant D.A.'s. Unlike Baglady, I found Carrie Lowell positively yummy. Lisa Hennessey was great, too.

Looks plus intelligence. Mmmmmm …

Robbinette (the black, male assistant D.A.) from the early days was great on the show as well.

The most off-putting cameo by a now-L&O regular, when you see it A&E reruns, has to be Jerry Orbach (Lenny) playing a defense attorney in one early episode. It tears your universe apart.

Really? Michael Moriarity turned in his resignation at the end of a season for moral reasons (granted I don’t recall how they explained moving Claire in and Paul out, tho’ Paul reappeared later on in a defense capacity). Claire had a rather public car accident, and her absence continued to be noted in the next season. Jamie left to get married (I believe) at any rate it was explained fully and before the next season. Did I miss any?

No, wring, but it looks like I did!

I like the new DA because we share the same first name!! Pretty cool!

What amazes me is that even though I’ve been watching the show since its inception there are still so many shows that I haven’t seen. Wish the late-night re-run wasn’t on so late. I gotta get up in the morning and can’t stay up that late. (EST)

Did anyone notice that the mother whose son died was played by the same actress who was “Anne of Green Gables”? I’ve never seen that show but my SO recognized her. Bit of a different role for her!!

MomCat

totally pissed
I missed the premier

damn

I don’t dispute that Angie Harmon is a hottie. But if I wanted to see hotties that couldn’t act I’d just turn it to the playboy channel. Or USA.

  1. Milo - yes, seeing Jerry Orbach playing a slippery lawyer was a shock to my system. I had totally forgotten about it until I saw it on the A&E rerun. The S. Epatha Merkeson early episode, too.
  2. Another thing that I find odd is how many people from “Oz” are on Law and Order and SVU. Half the cast is on one of them in some role or even just in minor parts. That freaks me out because they are enemies on Oz and then talking on SVU and I head spins a little. Time to crawl out of the TV. I know there are more but I am thinking of (Oz names) Keller and O’Reilly and Beecher and Schillinger.

What is “Oz”? Which actors were on that??

Thanks,
MomCat

That was Megan Follows? I didn’t catch the opening credits, so I didn’t see her name. If it was, she sure looked different!

Quote from poohpah chalupa

4: Mr. Sheen’s diatribe on the Dr. Laura clone was priceless! Does anyone know where I could get a transcript of it?

It was in today’s New York Daily News…

Bartlet: I enjoy your show. I like how you call homosexuality an abomination.

Jacobs: I don’t say homosexuality is an abomination, Mr. President. The Bible does.

Bartlet: Yes, it does. Leviticus.

Jacobs: 18:22.

Bartlet: Chapter, verse. And I wanted to ask you a couple of questions while I had you here.

I’m interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She’s a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian and always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be?

While you’re thinking about that, can I ask another? My chief of staff, Leo McGarry, insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or is it okay to call the police?

Here’s one that’s important, 'cause we’ve got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean — Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point?

Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother, John, for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made of two different threads?

Think about those questions, would you?

One last thing: While you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the ignorant tight-ass club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits.

A friend of mine saw Angie Harmon on the street last week. He said she was the most dy-no-mite woman he has ever seen - very tall and breathtaking. I’ve been looking all around town for a skirt like the grey one she wears in the opening credits.

L&O pretty much the only show besides Jeopardy and The Simpsons that I can sit through.

I thought the season premiere was good. I get kind of annoyed with the formula where the real murderer is caught in the last 15 minutes and is the person you least suspected.

I like the new DA because the actress naturally has the kindest eyes I’ve ever seen. You know she’s the nicest person in the world.

I also didn’t think it was out of character for Jack to “wimp out” on manslaughter. I think he honestly believed the mother, once she confessed, that she thought her son was dead before she set the fire.

This is old news by now, huh? sorry

SaxFace, I’m glad you revived it, because what DID happen to the Chilean guy in that was on trial in the season finale? I forgot all about that over the summer, but now I MUST know. Help!

Magdalene, I didn’t revive the thread, it was at the top but did I mention that you’re loved?

I didn’t see the season finale, but I bet you $5 he was found “guilty”.

Oh, shoot, I DID see that episode. Duh! It was an interesting twist - the appeal was taken all the way to the Supreme Court and the arguments were made. We never heard the outcome, it was one of those “The Lady and the Tiger” endings.
