Fellow Med-Pros: ABG tips/tricks?

As a respiratory therapist, I am often called upon to draw arterial blood gases. Those of you who know about these, know they’re a mutha to draw, and damn painful for the patient.

I have about an 80% success rate (radial), so I am wondering if any of y’all who have drawn ABG’s might have some tips for me? My main problem thus far is the overweight patient with a thready pulse…
