FEMALE vocalist with the sexiest voice

Peggy Lee. (She gives me fever.)

my wife (brunetter) without a doubt!! … for those of you who feel I am somewhat biased, check out the website of her jazz band …

http://www.westcoastjazz.net

it is a little rough for a site right now but no one has really spent any time on it. I did cut some real audio clips up there though …

i really can’t believe no one has mentioned her:

Stevie Nicks - Fleetwood Mac

Kate Pierson. She really does have a phenomenal voice.

And, as predicted, I’ve thought of someone to add to my list. Listening to Kristen Hersh (from Throwing Muses, and also solo stuff) sing makes me feel like when I climbed the rope in gym class.

Another big vote for Tori Amos. Hearing her voice gives me wood

Sarah McLachlan is pretty good too, as is Kate Bush. Debbie Harry should be mentioned as well.

Oh, and it is spelled “Tanita Tikaram”, I think. “Twist in my Sobriety” is a great song. Thank god Napster still works!

Absolutly Stevie Nicks!

V.

Sarah Vaughan or Lee Wiley.

I’ve always preferred Vaughan’s voice to Holiday’s or Fitzgerald’s. In addition to having that bebop thing goin’ on (she was the latest to get started of the Big Three; Billie and Ella’s earliest work dates back to the Swing era), her instrument is deeper and richer and SEXIER.

Lee Wiley is IMHO the best white female jazz singer ever. Anita O’Day might have been able to beat her as a technician, but Lee was huskier and smoother at the same time, and simply oozed sex appeal. She was also a Major Babe, and knew it.

In a particular order:

  1. Lady Kier (of Deee-Lite)
  2. Lauryn Hill
  3. Fiona Apple
  4. Annie Lennox
  5. Sarah McLachlan
  6. Björk
  7. Madonna

Another vote for Stevie Nicks!
Christine McVie (sp?) is up there, too.
Sarah MacLachlan
Tori Amos
Kate Bush
Chrissie Hynde
Debbie Harry
Bjork

Joan Osbourne

Can’t believe no-one else has mentioned her yet. Hearing her live helped me understand the whole girls-fainting-for-the-Beatles thing…

Melissa Etheridge… she grabs you right at the cellular level.

Enya
Sade
Aimee Mann ('Til Tuesday)
Natilie Merchant (sp?)
Tony Bosio (Missing Persons)

Well, I think I have sufficently dated myself to the 80’s

Plus most of the jazz standards: Ella, Shirley, (not Mclain)etc.

I am a big fan of the female voice in general (ask my wife–I am a “girl group” fanatic), but the top two sexiest female voices I have ever heard, hands down, go to Sarah McLachlan and Carly Simon.

really?
Who is your favorite girl group?

SEXIER! Yep, agree with Uke once again. Listen to Vaughan on Lullaby of Birdland or Misty. Yow!

My favourites, as far as voices that make me melt:

Monica Richards of Faith and the Muse

Kristy Thirsk of the Rose Chronicles (her work on Delerium’s “Flowers Become Screens” always sends chills up and down my spine)

Sarah McLachlan

and Tina Root of Switchblade Symphony.

All ladies with truly beautiful voices.

-Qixotica

vanilla, asking who my favorite girl group is is like asking someone which kind of air they prefer.

My favorite modern girl group is probably the Go-Go’s. My favorite “early rock” girl group is probably the Shangri-Las.

Speaking of which…how was the Go-Go’s concert, Phil?

I have to admit: Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) really gets me going in her “Look At Me” song. Not the Spice Girls, though, just the solo stuff.

I’d do her. (Was that out loud?)

As near as I can tell not one of you heathens said

Nena (of 99 red balloons fame).

I almost learned to speak German from listing to that beautiful voice so much.
